During fertilization, when the sperm(having acrosome in the head of sperm) come in contact with zona pellucida(layer of ovum), zona pellucida allows to enter only that sperm and prevents the entry of other sperms. Acrosome helps to penetrate the zona pellucida.

It needs two sperms because, one of the sperm reacts with the diploid secondary nucleus to form primary endosperm nucleus which is triploid in nature and another sperm reacts with the egg to form zygote.endosperm provide nourishment to developing embryo.
