Almost every country in the world has social diversities in respect to caste, race, religion, language, etc. Democracy is considered to be the most suitable form of government to accommodate these diversities. It aims at giving equal rights and opportunities to all the citizens.
Democracy is not simply rule by majority opinion. The majority always needs to work for minority. Democracy does not believe in any kind of discrimination among citizens on grounds of caste, religion, colour, ***, race, etc. It accommodates alLsocial diversities.

From the very start, Gandhi had an agenda of Non -violence,Swaraj, Swadeshi and Boycott. The laws of British government were most oppressive. On 31 January 1930, he sent a letter to Viceroy Irwin stating eleven demands. These demands were of general interests which identified with all classes within Indian society. Salt was consumed by the rich and the poor alike. The salt tax was most stirring of all because government had monopoly over its production. The eleven demands were an ultimatum to the government failing to fulfill which he would resort to his agenda of swaraj. Hereby, Gandhi chose to break the salt law peacefully. This instigated the Civil disobedience movement and the salt march to Dandi.

This sense of collective belonging came partly through the experience of united struggles. But there were also a variety of cultural processes through which nationalism captured people's imagination.
(i) History and fiction, folklore and songs, popular prints and symbols, all played a part in the making of nationalism.
(ii)The identity of India came to be visually associated with the image of Bharat Mata, which was created in 1870 by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, who wrote ‘Vande Mataram’ as a hymn to the motherland. Inspired by the Swadeshi Movement, Abanindranath Tagore painted his famous image of Bharat Mata.
(iii)The idea of nationalism was also developed through reviving Indian folklore. In late-nineteenth-century India, nationalists began recording folk tales sung by bards and they toured villages to gather folk songs and legends. This was done to promote the traditional culture that had been corrupted and damaged by outside forces.

- The industrial working class did not participate in the Civil Disobedience Movement in large numbers, except in the Nagpur region.
- As the industrialists came closer to the congress, workers stayed aloof.
- But inspite of that, some workers did participate in the Civil Disobedience Movement, selectively adopting some ideas of the Gandhian programme. But the congress was reluctant to include workers’ demand as part of its programme of struggle.
- It felt that this would alleviate industrialists and divide the anti-imperial forces.

Advantages of Globalisation
(i) Globalisation has resulted in greater competition among producers-both local and foreign. This has improved the quality of products and lowered the prices.
(ii) A wider variety of goods are available in the market for consumers.
Disadvantages of Globalisation
(i) For a large number of small producers, globalisation has posed major problems. These producers were not able to free the competition from large foreign producers and hence several of such production units had to shut down, rendering workers jobless.
(ii) Workers in MNCs are employed on* temporary basis . and laid off without any compensation during the slack period.

Cities provide markets and also provide services such as banking, insurance, transport, labour, consultants and financial advisors, etc., to the industries. Many industries tend to come together to make use of the advantages offered by the urban centres known as agglomeration economies. Gradually a large industrial agglomeration takes place. So, it is basically coordination of various industries in a city for the development of manufacturing industries.
