The following could be some of the reasons why a democracy is a better form of government.
1. Freedom of expression granted in a democratic nation. For example, the role of media, it allows people to form groups, indulge in peaceful protests to vent their grievances.
 2. It ensures transparency in its functioning. example the recent introduction of the Right to Information.
 3. It enhances dignity of the individual. Democracies ensures rights to the individuals which allows them to develop to the fullest. Example Fundamental Rights.

Chawls were the multistoreyed structures where the natives lived in the pathetic condition. 1.Chawls had limited space and there lived many in one room that also lead to suffocation. 2.There were no separate toilets instead each floor had a single toilet. 3.Except limited space there were also water crisis which lead to many problems such as disruption in performing household activities. 4.Also people living there coukd not open the windows even in humid conditions because of the smell of the filthy gutters.

(i) Chawls were multi storeyed structure had been built from atleast the 1860s in the native parts of the town.
(ii) Like the tenements in London, these houses were largely owned by private landlords, such as merchants, bankers, and building contractors, looking for quick ways of earning money from anxious migrants.
(iii) Each chawl was divided into smaller one- room tenements which had no private toilet
(iv)  There was an open, space in the middle of chawls for social and cultural gatherings.
(v) People who belonged to the ‘depressed classes’ found it even more difficult to find housing. Lower castes were kept out of many chawls and often had to live in shelters made of corrugated sheets, leaves, or bamboo poles.

Rowlatt Acts, (February 1919), legislation passed by the Imperial Legislative Council, the legislature of British India. The acts allowed certain political cases to be tried without juries and permitted internment of suspects without trial. ORRowlatt Act 1919 authorised the Government: To arrest and imprison any person without trial in a court of law. To demand security from any person, impose restriction on residence, curb freedom of activities, to search house and arrest any person, at any place.

  • Guiseppe garibaldi is perhaps most celebrated of Italian freedom fighters.
  • He came from a family engaged in costal trade and was a sailor.
  • In 1833, he met Mazzini, joined the Young Italy movt. and participated in a republican uprising in Piedmont on 1834.
  • In 1867, Garibaldi led on army of volenteers to Rome to fight against the last obstacle to the unification of Italy, the papal states where a French garrison was stationed.
