India adopted multi-party system for the following reasons
(i) Being a vast, and diverse country, the multi-party system was needed to accommodate the vast population.
(ii) The diverse social and geographical features could not be represented with two or three parties.
(iii) The multi-party system in India evolved over a long time, depending on the nature of society, its social, regional division, its history of politics and its system of elections.
(iv) Multi-party system ensures a healthy competition between different parties and prevents dictatorship of a single party. Indian Constitution declares India as a democratic country. Multi-party system fulfils this criteria and provides chance for proper growth of the nation.

The following points may help you:
a. The very idea of power sharing is to give representation to diverse interest of the society and maintain peace and stability in the society. It is in the sprit of democracy to share power. It implies distribution and devolution of power among the various organs of the government, among the different levels, among the social groups so as to enure their participation, and prevent arbitrary exercise of power. Power is shared among political parties, groups. Various dimensions of power sharing prevent concentration of power.
b. A federation or federalism is a form of government where powers are divided between the center and its constituent units. In a federation there are two levels of government one at the center, representing the interests of the country as a whole and the other at the state or regional level representing regional interests. The powers in a federation or a federal state are clearly demarcated by the written constitution. Both these levels enjoy powers independent of each other. The jurisdiction of both levels is clearly defined.

Multipurpose projects and large dams have come under scrutiny and opposition because of the following reasons:
- Large dams affect the natural flow of rivers. This results in hampering the flow of sediments. Excessive accumulation of sediments in the reservoirs causes damage to the marine life.
- The dams on the flood plains submerge the vegetation and soil leading to its gradual decomposition.
- It further results in floods due to the deposition of sediments in the reservoirs.
- It causes destruction of the forest areas and the displacement of tribal and local communities.
- The construction of big dams destroys the natural surroundings and biodiversity of an area.
- If large dams are constructed at the place where tectonic plates meet, it can induce earthquakes.

- Bharatendu Harishchandra, the pioneer of modern of Hindi literature
- the first proper modern novel was written by Srinivas Das of Delhi
-
Srinivas Das’s novel, published in 1882, was titled Pariksha-Guru (The Master Examiner).
- The main theme of the novel was that it showcased the pros and cons of colonial modernity
- It was expected for the society to take caution against the dangerous influences of bad company and consequent loose morals. Pariksha-Guru reflects the inner and outer world of the newly emerging middle classes. The characters in the novel are caught in the difficulty of adapting to colonised society and at the same time preserving their own cultural identity. The novel tries to teach the reader the ‘right way’ to live and expects all ‘sensible men’ to be worldly-wise and practical, to remain rooted in the values of their own tradition and culture, and to live with dignity and honour.
- Devaki Nandan Khatri's Chandrakanta helped to populaize the Hindi language
-
It is observed that Premchand’s novels are filled with all kinds of powerful characters drawn from all levels of society. In his novels the characters are drawn from daily life experiences. One might notice characters like aristocrats and landlords, middle level peasants and landless labourers, middle-class professionals and people from the margins of society. The women characters are strong individuals, especially those who come from the lower classes and are not modernised. The central character of his novel Rangbhoomi (The Arena), Surdas, is a visually impaired beggar from a so-called 'untouchable' caste. One can see Surdas struggling to get back the land that had forcibly taken away from him.

In 1878, the Vernacular Press Act was passed by the British government in India so that the letters of Indian languages could be kept strictly controlled. At that time, Lord Litton was the Governor-General of India and the Viceroy. In this act, there was a provision of strict action on the publication of such material in the letters-journals so that there is a possibility of public dissatisfaction with the British rule. Actually this law was brought to suppress linguistic newspapers. The Amrit Bazar Patrika, published in Kolkata from Kolkata on the very next day of the passage of the country press act, made himself an 'English daily' letter. Its editor was Aditya Kumar Ghosh.
