Social difference becomes a social division in mostly two cases like;
(a) Overlapping and Cross Cutting. When one kind of social difference becomes more important than other and people start feeling that they belong to other communities. This type of situation produces social division.
E.g. Dalits in our country tend to be poor, landless and suffered with discrimination.
(b) In another way, politics looks after due representation of various communities. Political parties frame policies to redress the grievances of the disadvantaged and discriminated communities. Besides, in many countries under recent trend there are some political parties that focus only on one community.

In India both the state and the central governments derive their authority from the constitution. But India is a federation with unitary features. This is because :
- Central government makes laws on the subjects included in the Union List while states make laws on the subjects in the state list. Both governments can make laws in the concurrent list. But in the case of disputes between the two governments, the will of the central government prevails.
- The constitution has empowered the central government to make a change in the boundaries of the states.
- States do not have the right to form their own constitution unlike in the USA where states can form their own laws.
- In India, people are the citizens of their country. They have single citizenship. They are not the citizens of their states unlike in the USA.
- The state government in India is elelected by the people. But if the union government feels that the state government is breaching the constitution, it can declare a constitutional emergency in the state where by the state government can be dismissed.

- Women in Vietnam traditionally enjoyed greater equality than in China.
- As the nationalist movement grew, the status of women emerged with a new image of womanhood.
- Writers and political thinkers began idealising women who rebelled against social norms.
- In the 1930s, a famous novel by Nhat Linh caused a scandal because it showed a woman leaving a forced marriage and marrying someone of her choice, who was involved in nationalist politics.
- This rebellion marked the arrival of the new women in the Vietnamese society.

The developing countries did not benefit from the economic growth of the developed countries like USA, European countries and Japan To remove this disparity, these 77 countries organized themselves into a group called the G-77 countries. Later on, more developing countries joined the group and now it consists of about 130 countries. They have demanded a New International Economic Order, in which they have a real control over their natural resources; they get more development assistance and fairer prices for raw materials exported by them. They want better access to the markets in developed countries for their manufactured goods. The Bretton Woods twins, IMF and World Bank, were mainly set up to favour the developed nations. They did not help the developing nations significantly as both of these institutions controlled their investments in the developing countries. So, the developing countries decided to set up their own group, the G-77, so that they could bargain better with these institutions and the developed countries for economic development and resultant benefits.
