0. Chandu Menon, a subjudge from Malabar, tried to translate an English novel called Henrietta Temple written by Benjamin Disraeli into Malayalam. But he quickly realised that his readers in Kerala were not familiar with the way in which the characters in English novels lived. So, he gave up this idea and wrote a delightful novel called Indulekha, which published in 1889 and, was the first modem novel in Malayalam.

Following are the characteristics of alluvial soil:
- Alluvial soil is considered the most fertile soil. The entire northern plains of India are made of alluvial soil.
- Alluvial soil contains sand, silt and clay.
- According to age, the alluvial soil is classified as Bangar (old alluvial) and Khadar (new alluvial).
- Alluvial soil contains an ample amount of potash, phosphoric acid and lime. The soil is thus suitable for the growth of sugarcane.
Following are the characteristics of arid soil:
i). The soil range red to brown in color.
ii). The soils contain considerable amount of soluble salts.
iii) .The soils contain low percentage of organic matter due to dry climate and absence of vegetation.
iv). The soil is alkaline in nature as there is not rainfall to wash soluble salts.

The ways by which democratic government ensures transparency are-
(i) Democratic government ensures that the decision-making process is based on proper norms and procedures.
(ii) Citizens have the right to examine the process of decision making.
(iii) A democratic government develops mechanisms for the citizens to hold the government accountable and mechanism for citizens to take part in decision making whenever they think fit.

1) Democracy involves a lot of Corruption.
2) It usually does not give a fair chance to all its citizens.
3) It keeps frustrating the citizens of their needs and ignores the demands of the people.
These are some of the reasons why it is said that democracy is not free from evils.
