Panchayati Raj is a system of local self government followed in India. It is meant to ensure that local administrative affairs, particularly in rural areas, should be resolved by local government units constituted with elected members. The modern panchayati raj in India consists of three levels, village level panchayats, block level panchayats and district level panchayats.
The Panchayati Raj system is of great importance in India in order to bring governance closer to the people. Local administrative issues are best resolved through local government agencies as these are the best equipped with knowledge and experience to deal with these issues. State and central government institutions are often too remote from the people to look after local affairs. Hence, Panchayati Raj can make governance in the country more efficient.

It will strengthen the nation materially as much by protecting its interest and ought to awaken and raise the national sentiment.”

The Great Depression began in 1929. India was an exporter of wheat to European countries. When the international prices of wheat crashed because of the Great Depression, prices of wheat in India fell almost by 50%. Peasants and farmers were the worst sufferers. While the prices of the crops declined, the government refused to reduce the revenues. This forced the peasants to borrow money from the moneylenders. At this time in India, the peasants’ indebtedness increased.

2.The role of community and culture - it depends on how the leaders will raise the demands and needs of a particular community. It will be peaceful if this is done within the dictates of the constitution.
3.The role of political party and government - The outcome will depend on how the government addresses the needs of a particular community. If it is done in fairness and according to the constitution then there will be peace.

Large scale participation of women was an important feature of the Civil Disobedience Movement. During the Salt March, thousands of women came out of their homes to listen to the speeches of Gandhi. women participated in protest marches, manufactured salt, and picketed foreign cloth and liquor shops. Many went to jail. While women of high caste families participated from urban areas, in rural areas they came from rich peasant households.
But this did not bring about any radical changes in the positin of women. For a long time the Congress was reluctant to allow women to hold any position of authority within the organisation.
