Women workers in Britain attacked the Spinning Jenny because it speeded up the spinning process, and consequently, reduced labour demand. By the use of this machine, a single worker could turn a number of spindles, and spin several threads at a time. This caused a valid fear of unemployment among women working in the woolen industry. Thus, uncertainty of jobs made workers hostile to the introduction of new technology. Till date, they had survived on hand spinning, but this was replaced in peril by the new machine. So when the Spinning Jenny was introduced in the woolen industry women started attacking the new machines and this conflict over the introduction of the Jenny continued for a long time.

The value of final goods and services produced in each sector during a particular year provides the total production of the sector for that year. And the sum of production in the three sectors gives ’ what is called the Gross Domestic Product or GDP of a country.
In India, the mammoth task of measuring GDP is undertaken by the central government ministry. This mini stry with the help of various government departments of all the Indian States and Union Territories, collects information related to total Volume of goods and services and their prices and then estimates the GDP.

- Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is the market value of the final goods and services produced during a year within the domestic territory of a country.
- Here only final goods and services are counted to avoid the problem of double counting.
- For e.g. a farmer sold wheat to flour mill for Rs. 10 per kg. The mill grinds the wheat and sold the flour to a biscuit company for Rs. 12 per kg. The biscuit company uses the flour, sugar and butter to make 5 biscuit packets. He sold the biscuit to the consumer at Rs. 15 per biscuit packet.
- Here biscuits are the final goods that are purchased by the consumer. Wheat and wheat flour are the intermediate goods used in the production of final good.
- The value of Rs. 75 already includes the value of flour Rs. 12.
- Hence only the value of final goods and services.
Therefore, GDP = Value of output − Intermediate Consumption

Language policy is a safeguard to the languages. It is one of the important aspects of our Constitution. Under this policy besides Hindi, 21 other languages are recognized as Scheduled Languages by the Constitution.
Main features of India’s language policy are as follows:
- Our Constitution did not give the status of national language to any one language. Hindi was identified as the official language. But Hindi is the mother tongue of only about 40 percent of Indians. Therefore, there were many safeguards to protect other languages.
- A candidate in an examination conducted for the Central Government positions may opt to take the examination in any of these languages. States, too, have their own official languages. Much of the government work takes place in the official language of the concerned State.
- Unlike Sri Lanka, the leaders of our country adopted a very cautious attitude in spreading the use of Hindi. According to the Constitution, the use of English for official purposes was to stop in 1965. However, many non-Hindi-speaking States demanded that the use of English continue.
- In Tamil Nadu, this movement took a violent form. The Central Government responded by agreeing to continue the use of English along with Hindi for official purposes.
- Promotion of Hindi continues to be the official policy of the government of India but promotion does not mean that the central government can impose Hindi on states where people speak a different language.
Thus, the framing of the language policy was the test for Indian federation. It inspired the confidence in different language speaking people that no language will be imposed on them. In a way, Language policy has strengthened the unity and integrity of India.

Casteism leads to extreme form of social inequality, a feature unique to India. In the earlier times, people were divided into caste depending upon the work they took upon for livelihood. This engaging in menial works were designated the low castes. Over a period of time, the phenomenon took an extreme form with the concepts of untouchability setting in.
Though in the twentieth century, several great thinkers debunked the theory and in present day urban India, caste may not play a very important role when choosing neighbors or workforce but it is still an important factor in marriages. Despite measures, untouchability has not completely vanished.

Johann Gutenberg was a German goldsmith and inventor, credited with the inventing of the movable type printing in Europe.Gutenberg was the son of a merchant, and his childhood was spent on a large agricultural estate. From his childhood, he had seen wine and olive presses. By and by, he learnt the art of polishing stones, became a master goldsmith, and also acquired the expertise to create lead moulds used for making trinkets. (Trinket-A small item of jewellery that is cheap or of low quality). Using this knowledge, Gutenberg adapted the existing technology to design his innovation. The olive press became the base model for the printing press and moulds were used for casting the metal types for the letters of the alphabet. By 1448, Gutenberg perfected the system. In 1455, Gutenberg published his 42-lines Bible, commonly known as the Gutenberg Bible. About 180 copies were printed most on paper and some on vellum.
