The development of printing culture in China:
(i)From AD 594 onwards, books in China were printed by rubbing paper – also invented there – against the inked surface of woodblocks.

(ii)As both sides of the thin, porous sheet could not be printed, the traditional Chinese ‘accordion book’ was folded and stitched at the side.Superbly skilled craftsmen could duplicate, with remarkable accuracy, the beauty of calligraphy.

(iii)The imperial state in China was, for a very long time, the major producer of printed material. China possessed a huge bureaucratic system which recruited its personnel through civil service examinations.

(iv)Textbooks for this examination were printed in vast numbers under the sponsorship of the imperial state.

(v)From the sixteenth century, the number of examination candidates went up and that increased the volume of print.

Satyagraha is based on the idea of truth and non violence

Abhinav ? 6 years, 5 months ago

The idea of satyagraga according to Gandhi ji , emphasized the power truth and the need to search for truth. It suggested that if the cause was true, if the struggle was against injustice, then physical force was not necessary to fight the oppressor. This could be done by appealing to the conscience of the oppressor. Without seeking vengeance a satyagrahu could win the battle through non violence. He believed that truth was bound to ultimately triumph. He believed that the dharma of non violence could unite all Indians.

Industrialists were closer to the Congress, workers kept a distance from the movement. But some workers selectively participated in the movement. Congress did not want to alienate the industrialists and hence preferred to keep the workers demand at bay.

◆In modern times money is used as a medium of exchange because it has been authorised by the government as a currency.◆It acts as a store value. We can buy precious metals like gold and save it for future use.◆Some modern forms of money are: paper currency, coins , demand deposits and cheques. They are accepted as a medium of exchange goods or services or buy things.◆A person holding money can easily exchange it for any commodity or service that he or she wants. Every person prefers to receive payments in money and exchanges for things he or she wants.

Yogita Ingle 6 years, 5 months ago

  • Money's most important function is as a medium of exchange to facilitate transactions.
  • In order to be a medium of exchange, money must hold its value over time; that is, it must be a store of value.
  • Money also functions as a unit of account, providing a common measure of the value of goods and services being exchanged.
  • Without money, all transactions would have to be conducted by barter, which involves direct exchange of one good or service for another.
  •  In other words, in a barter system, exchange can take place only if there is a double coincidence of wants.
  • Money effectively eliminates the double coincidence of wants problem by serving as a medium of exchange that is accepted in all transactions.
