LRR (Legal Reserve Ratio) refers to that legal minimum fraction of deposits which the banks are mandate to keep as cash with themselves. The LRR is fixed by the Central Bank. It has two components:
1. Cash Reserve Ratio
2. Statutory Liquidity Ratio
Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR)::  It refers to the minimum amount of funds that a commercial bank has to maintain with the Reserve Bank of India, in the form of deposits. For example, suppose the total assets of a bank are worth Rs 200 crore and the minimum cash reserve ratio is 10%. Then the amount that the commercial bank has to maintain with RBI is Rs 20 crore. If this ratio rises to 20%, then the reserve with RBI increases to Rs 40 crore. Thus, less money will be left with the commercial bank for lending. This will eventually lead to considerable decrease in the money supply. On the contrary, a fall in CRR will lead to an increase in the money supply.

(i) In a democracy, power is also shared among different political parties, pressure groups and movements.
(ii) Democracy provides the citizens a choice to choose their rulers. This choice is provided by the various political parties, who contest elections to win them. Such competition ensures that power does not remain in one hand.
(iii) In the long run, power is shared among different political parties that represent different ideologies and social groups. Sometimes, this kind of sharing can be direct, when two or more parties form an alliance to contest elections. If their alliance is elected, they form a coalition government and thus, share power.
(iv) In a democracy, various pressure groups and movements also remain active. They also have a share in governmental power, either through participation in governmental committees or having influence on the decision making process.

The main functions of commercial banks are accepting deposits from the public and advancing them loans. However, besides these functions there are many other functions which these banks perform. All these functions can be divided under the following heads: Accepting deposits Giving loans Overdraft Discounting of Bills of Exchange Investment of Funds Agency Functions Miscellaneous Functions

Vikas Kuntal 5 years, 11 months ago

So the 2 most basic and well known functions of banks is to hold money in the form of deposits (acquire funds), and make loans with those funds (invest). Banks pay interest on some accounts (any accounts with large amounts usually pay some form of interest), and charge even higher interest rates on the loans.

Nuclear Energy

  • Atom consists of nucleus and electrons in orbits.
  • The nucleus consists of protons (positively charged particles) and nuetrons (nuetrally charged particles)

Energy is obtained from the nucleus in the following methods

Nuclear Fusion: Breaking a heavy nuclei into 2 or more smaller lighter nuclei

Nuclear Fission : Combining 2 lighter nuclei to form a heavy nucleus

Uncontrolled chain reaction : In an uncontrolled nuclear fission, a heavy nucleus in bombarded with a neutron. It splits into lighter nuclei releasing 2 or more neutrons. Each neutron again bombards nuclei of atom and splits further and further. The neutrons and thereby the fission reaction exponentially increases. Eg : Atom bomb

Controlled chain reaction : In an controlled nuclear fission, a heavy nucleus in bombarded with a neutron. It splits into lighter nuclei releasing 2 or more neutrons. But in this case, except one neutron all the other neutrons are absorbed. So, only one neutron is left. This single neutron again bombards nuclei of atom and splits further and further. Again only one neutron is left behind and the others are absorbed. So, the reaction is controlled. Eg: Nuclear generator. In a nuclear generator, nuclear energy is harnessed in a controlled manner to generate electricity.
