Conservatism was a political philosophy that stressed the importance of the tradition and preferred gradual development to quick change.
Features of the believers of conservatism:

- They believed in a monarchy, the Church, social hierarchies, etc.
- They did not propose to return to the society of pre-revolutionary days, rather they realised that modernisation could, in fact, strengthen the traditional institutions like the monarchy.

The colonial powers exploited the colonies. This led to the emergence of anti-colonial movements in Asian and African countries. The anti-colonial movement was nationalist in character because people who fought against the imperial powers were inspired by a sense of collective national unity. They began to consider their country not just as a region inhabited by people of various identities but as a single unified nation.

The growth of modern nationalism is intimately connected to the anti-colonialmovement in India, just like in any other country.
In the process of their struggle with colonialism people began discovering their unity.
Anti-colonial movement gave a strong issue to the people with which they could identify and could come on a common platform.
All though each class or group of people felt that they were being oppressed under colonialism, the effects of colonialism were felt differently.
Hence, the growth of nationalism in the colonies is linked to an anti-colonial movement.

Some factors which gave rise to Nationalism were:
• Films, novels, Symbols, folklore, history, and songs motivated people and generated such feelings which inspired them to know their true identity and evoke the sentiments for their nation.
• Some images or figures, for example – the image of a female figure not as a woman of real life but as a figure with physical existence and in concrete form. Also, Germania, the female figure personified as the German nation. In this figure, she wears the crown of oak leaves which stands for Heroism. She is also shown with the sword protecting the Rhine River. All this inspired the citizens of the country.
• Many nationalists groups emerged when they saw incidents which made other countries attaining their goals and independence. For example – the events at Balkan which eventually became the major factor of the First World War inspired others to fight for their own rights.
• Nationalists began to travel to different regions to collect folktales and to preserve those so that the individual could identify his national identity and generate the pride for its nation.

Fascist regimes have these seven characteristics:
- Usurpation: The state overtakes and merges with corporate power and sometimes the church.
- Nationalism: Leaders appeal to a nostalgic wish to return to an earlier golden age. That can include a return to a simple, virtuous pastoral life.
- Militarism: Leaders glorify military strength through propaganda.
- Father figure: A leader assumes the role of the father of the nation. He creates a cult status as a "dauntless ruler beholden to no one."
- Mass appeal: A leader claims that the people, manifested as the state, can achieve anything. If they don't succeed, it's because of naysayers, minority groups, and saboteurs.
- Government surveillance: The government takes an active role in suppressing dissent. It rewards people who report on each other.
- Persecution: The state violently persecutes minority groups and opponents.

Power sharing is the spirit of democracy because it is one of the foundational principles on which the concept of democratic rule is based. In a democracy, the people have a right to be consulted on how they should be governed and all the citizens tend to have the same political and legal rights.
