Newlands’ law of octaves
- In 1866 an English scientist John Newlands arranged the elements in the order of
increasing atomic masses starting from the hydrogen having lowest atomic mass to the 56th element named thorium having the highest atomic mass among the elements discovered at that time. - It was found that every eighth element possessed properties similar to that of the first. Sodium is the eighth element after Lithium possessing properties similar to one another. Similarly, beryllium and magnesium resemble each other.
- This was comparable to octaves found in music and hence was called the ‘Law of Octaves’ or ‘Newlands’ Law of Octaves’.
- But the Law of Octaves was applicable only up to calcium, after which every eighth element did not resembled the first element

The Haber process, also known as the Haber-Bosch Process, was founded by Fritz Haber and Carl Bosch, both who were German Chemists. Haber discovered the conditions for the formation of ammonia, and Bosch discovered the work of high-pressure on chemical reactions (developed into industrial process). Both were awarded the Nobel Prize.
THE PROCESS
The Haber process takes nitrogen gas from air and combines it with molecular hydrogen gas to form ammonia gas. This is an exothermic reaction, meaning it releases energy so that the sum of the enthalpies of N2 and H2 (the reactants) is greater than the enthalpy of NH3 (the products).
Haber's process is an industrial or commercial process used for the manufacture of ammonia from nitrogen and hydrogen using iron catalyst at 400-450 degree Celsius and 200 atmospheres pressure.
A mixture of hydrogen and nitrogen gases in the ratio 3:1 is taken in compressor. It is then compressed to about 200 atm pressure and passed over heated catalyst in catalyst chamber. The mixture is maintained at a temperature between 400 450C. In condenser, the hot mixture of ammonia gas and unreacted hydrogen and nitrogen gases coming out of catalyst chamber are led to the cooling pipes.
N2(g) + 3H2(g) → 2NH3(g) ΔH = - 92.4 kJ
Which is a reversible reaction:
2NH3(g) → N2(g) + 3H2(g) ΔH = + 92.4 kJ mol-1

| Real Image | Virtual Image |
| The image is due to reflection or refraction, when the light arises from an object and converges to a certain point | The image produced when the light arising from an object appears to strike a certain point |
| The real image can be captured on screen as it is the result of actual intersection of ray of light | It cannot be captured on a screen as it is the imaginary intersection of ray of light |
| The images are inverted | The images are erect |
| Converging lens are used to produce the image | Diverging lens are used to produce the image |
| Concave mirror is used to produce the image | A plane mirror or convex mirror is used to produce the image |

Both natural selection and genetic drift are mechanisms for evolution (they both change allele frequencies over time). The key distinction is that in genetic drift allele frequencies change by chance, whereas in natural selection allele frequencies change by differential reproductive success.
If the frequencies of traits in a population change purely by chance , then genetic drift has occurred. This may happen when a random subset of a population dies (i.e., from a natural disaster or from indiscriminate human hunting). The remaining individuals are left to pass their traits to later generations, but the population has changed, so evolution has occurred.
Natural selection is the process by which the most adaptive traits for an environment become more common generation after generation. It is not a random process. However, it also is not a purposeful process. If a trait enhances an organism's ability to reproduce, then that trait will be more likely to pass to the next generation compared to a trait that does not enhance reproductive success. Natural selection is the process by which these adaptive traits become more common in a population.

The reactivity series is where metals are arranged in the decreasing order of their reaction with other metals. If a metals is more reactive metal only then can it replace a metal which is less reactive. a metal cannot displace a lower reactive metal thus no reaction.
