1.he would not describe the position of hydrogen 2 he arrange elements according to their atomic mass in increasing order but he place cobalt before Nickel where cobalt have high atomic mass as nickel

??Geetha Sree ?? 5 years, 11 months ago

1. His table didn't have a particular position to hydrogen. 2. He arranged elements named Cobalt and Nickel in a twisted manner. He kept cobalt (atomic mass - 58.93) before nickel ( atomic mass - 58.71). 3. Another problem was that the atomic masses do not increase in a regular manner in going from one element to the next. So it was not possible to predict how many elements could be discovered between two elements - especially when we consider the heavier elements.

Acquired traits are not inherited by the organism genetically but by environmental conditions present around the organism or the environmental conditions in which the organism lives. For example, Beetles will reduce in weight if not given enough food.

Whereas,

Inherited traits are those characteristics that an organism inherits from his/her parents i.e., passed on genetically through DNA. (Change in DNA). For example –Change of beetles in color from red to green.

The gap between the nerve endings of the first neuron and the dendrites of the second neuron is known as synapse. At the end of the axon, the electrical impulse sets off the release of some chemicals. These chemicals cross the synapse and start a similar electrical impulse in a dendrite of the next neuron.

There are various methods of contraception used. These include the following:

1) Mechanical methods of birth control are:

i) Male Condom

ii) Female Condom

Both of these prevent the sperm from meeting the egg.

iii) Intrauterine Device (IUD) – a T-shaped device placed inside the uterus (by a doctor) which blocks the sperms from entry into the fallopian tubes

iv) Intrauterine System (IUS) – a device similarly designed and administered as the IUD which releases hormones that thicken the cervical mucus thus blocking sperms from entry into the uterus

v) Diaphragm, Cervical Cap, and Shield – latex or silicon cap used with spermicides which blocks the entry of sperms into the cervix

vi) Sponge – a soft, disk-shaped device that a woman wets and inserts into the ******, and thus covering the cervix and blocking the sperms

3) Hormonal methods - Oral administration of small doses of either progestogens or progestogen-estrogen combinations is a method used by females in the form of pills. They can also be used by females as injections or implants under the skin.

This defect is myopia.
It can be defined is as follows.
The eye defect in which a person cannot see objects beyond near point or far objects but can see the near objects clearly is called Myopia.
The point of maximum distance at which the eye lens can form an image on the retina is called ' far point '
This defect can be corrected by using biconvex lens.

Given distance of far point (D) = 2m
Let f be the focal length of eye lens.
Image distance ( distance between eye lens and retina ) for our human eye is always constant and is about 2.5 cm.
This is due to the action of ciliary muscles.
applying lens formula, we get
f = -D
= -2 cm.
but , the power of a lens is reciprocal of focal length.
hence. Power = 1/f. ( f in meters )
= 1/-2
= - 0.5 dioptre.

Public cleanliness is important for maintaining public health. It helps in preventing a large number of deadly diseases which are quite common under unhygeinic conditions.

Public cleanliness should be practised everywhere inculding schools, workplaces, industries, home etc.

In addition to frequent hand washing, schools should instruct teachers to educate students on the following hygiene practices:

  • Cover mouth and nose when coughing or sneezing with a tissue.
  • Cough or sneeze into your sleeve when a tissues is unavailable.
  • Dispose of used tissues properly.
  • Wash hands regularly and thoroughly.

For employees at work places, hand sanitizers are an effective cleaning tool, killing 99.9% of most common germs. At workstations, regular cleaning of computer keyboards, phone handles, and desks also minimizes the risk of germ contamination.

  • Detergents are cleansing agents possessing ammonium or sulphonate salts of long chain carboxylic acids that are used to clean clothes in hard water.
  • Hard water is the water containing calcium and magnesium carbonates. Soap forms lather with these carbonate salts thereby making it difficult to clean the clothes.
  •  The charged ends of detergent do not form scum or precipitates with the calcium and magnesium ions present in hard water.
  • Therefore they remain effective in cleaning dirt in hard water as compared to soap.
  • They are also used for manufacturing shampoos and various cleansing products.

Digestion of food in human beings begins in the mouth. The mouth cavity contains teeth, tongue and salivary glands. The teeth cut the food into small pieces, chew and grind it. This is called physical digestion. Salivary glands produce saliva which mixes with the food. This involves chemical digestion of food. The saliva contains an enzyme called salivary amylase which digests the starch and converts it into maltose sugar. Mouth opens into a small funnel shaped area called pharynx which leads to a long tube called oesophagus. It carries the food down into the stomach. The wall of oesophagus is muscular. When the slightly digested food enters the food pipe, the walls of the oesophagus starts contraction and expansion movements called peristaltic movements which push the food into the stomach. Digestion does not take place in the oesophagus.
The glands present on the walls of the stomach secrete gastric juice that contains hydrochloric acid, the enzyme pepsin and mucus. A small amount of gastric lipase is also present that breaks down the fats present in the food. Gastric juice is acidic due to the presence of HCl which is necessary for the pepsin to become active and converts the proteins into peptones. The mucus protects the stomach walls from HCl. From the stomach, the partially digested food goes into the small intestine through sphincter muscle. Small intestine is divided into two parts: Duodenum and Ileum.
Duodenum receives the secretions of two glands, liver and pancreas through a common duct. Liver secretes bile which is alkaline and contains salts to emulsify the fats (or lipids). The bile secreted by the liver is stored in the gall bladder. Pancreas secretes pancreatic juice which contains trypsin, lipase and pancreatic amylase. Trypsin digests the proteins, lipase emulsifies the fats and pancreatic amylase breaks down the starch. Thus, small intestine is the site of complete digestion of carbohydrates, proteins and fats. The walls of ileum secrete succus entericus which completes the digestion process.

The walls of small intestine has finger like projections like villi which increases the surface area for absorption. The villi are richly supplied with blood vessels which take the absorbed food to each and every cell of the body, where it is utilised for obtaining energy, building up new tissues and the repair of old tissues.

The unabsorbed food is sent into the large intestine where more villi absorb water from this material. The rest of the material is removed from the body via the ****. The exit of this waste material is regulated by the **** sphincter.

Inherited traits are those traits which can be passed from one generation to the next generation. These involve changes in the DNA.
Acquired traits - An acquired trait is a physical characteristic of an organism that is not passed down to offspring genetically. It is not coded in the organism's DNA and is a product of the environment's influence on the organism. These traits are acquired during the lifetime.
The acquired traits are not passed to the next generation. For example, if a person has increased the muscle strength and size by exercising regularly, then he/she cannot pass the same to their offspring.
