the starlight on entering the earth atmosphere undergoes the refraction continuously before it reaches the earth atmospheric refraction occur in the medium of gradually changing refractive index.Since the atmosphere bends starlight towards the normal the apparent position of the star is slightly different from the actual position.

Below is the procedure to verify experimentally that the same current flows through every part of the circuit containing three resistances in series.
Procedure:
1. Join three resistors of different values in series. Connect them with a battery, an ammeter and a plug key. As shown in the figure below.
2. Plug the key. Note the ammeter reading.
3. Change the position of ammeter to anywhere record the reading each time.We will see that there is no change in the reading of the ammeter.Hence, the same current flows through every part of the circuit containing three resistors in series connected to a battery.

The increase in the percentage of the gases which prevent the escape of heat from the earth, which cause the average temperatures to increase worldwide is called greenhouse effect.
Heat is trapped by glass, and hence the temperature inside a glass enclosure will be much higher than the surroundings. This phenomenon was used to create an enclosure where tropical plants could be kept warm during the winters in colder climates. Such enclosures are called greenhouses. Carbon dioxide is one of the greenhouse gases.

The valency of an element is dependent on the number of electrons in the outermost shell of the electron.
In a group all constituting elements will have the same valency because they all have the same number of electrons in the outer shells.
Across the a period, the number however increase by 1. Therefore in group 1 is valency of 1, in two valency of 2, in three valency of 3..and so on.

Three methods of producing magnetic fields are as follows:
(a) Magnetic field can be produced by placing a permanent magnet or a horse-shoe magnet at the place, where magnetic field is required.
(b) Magnetic field is produced around a current carrying straight conductor or a current carrying coil.
(c) A very good method to produce magnetic field is due to flow of current in a solenoid.

The directional movement of a plant in response to light is called phototropism. The shoot responds by bending towards light and roots respond by bending away from light.
This happens as follows:
(i) When sunlight falls straight on the plant, the auxin hormone synthesised at the tip of the stem spreads uniformly down the stem and due to equal concentration of auxin, stem grows straight.
(ii) When sunlight fells on only one side of the plant, the auxin diffuses towards the shady side of shoot. The concentration of auxin stimulates the cells to grow longer. Therefore, the stem appears to bend towards the source of light.
