- Chemical Properties of Metals:
- Reaction of Metals with Oxygen: Almost all metals react with oxygen to form metal oxides.
Metal + Oxygen → Metal oxide
Sodium and potassium are the most reactive and react with oxygen present in the air at room temperature to form the oxides.
- Reaction of Metals with Water: Metals react with water to produce metal oxides with the release of hydrogen gas. But all metals do not react with water.
Metal + Water → Metal oxide + Hydrogen
Metal oxides that are soluble in water dissolve in it to further form metal hydroxide.
Metal oxide + Water → Metal hydroxide
Metals such as sodium and potassium react vigorously with cold water to lead to evolution of hydrogen, which immediately catches fire producing a large quantity of heat.
- Reactions of Metals with Acids: Metals react with acids to form salt and hydrogen gas.
Metal + Dilute acid → Salt + Hydrogen
Metals react with dilute hydrochloric acid to give metal chloride and hydrogen gas. Example - Magnesium reacts violently with dilute hydrochloric acid to form magnesium chloride and hydrogen.
iv. Metals react with Solutions of other Metal Salts:
A more reactive metal displaces a less reactive metal from its salt solution. For example: When an iron nail is placed in a copper sulphate solution, the blue colour of CuSO4 fades away slowly and a reddish brown copper metal is formed.
CuSO4(aq) + Fe(s) → FeSO4(aq) + Cu(s)

FPS is the frame rate per second which means the no. of images projected on the wall in just one second.
And 24 fps is the minimum frame rate per second that is required to see a proper event or video. This is the fps that a person can not see that the event or video is broken or in images. More than that fps shows a video or event which a human eye can not relate to an image

(a) Roasting of sulphide ore:
2Cu2S(s) + 3O2(s) → 2Cu2O(s) + 2SO2(g)
(b) Reduction of copper (I) oxide with copper (I) sulphide:
2Cu2O + Cu2S → 6Cu(s) + SO2(g)
This reaction is known as auto - reduction.
(c) Reaction for electrolytic refining:
At anode : Cu2+(aq) + 2e- → Cu(s)
At cathode : Cu(s) → Cu2+(aq)+ 2e-

Since water is more optically dense than air so light would bend towards the normal. Due to this different light rays meet above the actual position of the lemon. This refraction causes the bending of rays and results in the diverging image. Therefore the lemon appearsto be raised and slightly bigger.

The Solvay Process is a continuous process using limestone (CaCO3) to produce carbon dioxide (CO2) which reacts with ammonia (NH3) dissolved in brine (concentrated NaCl(aq)) to produce sodium carbonate. The steps in the Solvay Process are: i. Brine Purification ii. Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate Formation iii. Sodium Carbonate Formation iv. Ammonia Recovery

(a) If the substance can be hammered to convert into sheets then it is metal if it is broken into pieces then it is non-metal. Set up the arrangement using bulb, battery, wire and switch as shown in figure. Place the substance between Point A and B if the bulb starts glowing then the substance is a Metal otherwise it is non-metal because metals are good conductor of electricity.
(b) Generally above methods can be used to identify metals and non-metals. But there are some exceptions also for example Sodium is metal which is not malleable in fact it is brittle. Graphite allotrope of non-metal carbon is a good conductor of electricity.
