Refraction is the change in direction of a wave passing from one medium to another or from a gradual change in the medium.
Refraction of light is one of the most usually observed phenomena which includes refraction of light through prism, but other waves like sound waves and water waves also experience refraction.

Upward movement of water through xylem is best explained by cohesion theory. It states that cohesion pull is responsible for movement of water in the xylem. The force of cohesion tension exceeds root pressure on a sunny day because on a sunny day the rate of transpiration is high. The water is lost from guard cell which leads to decrease in the water potential of guard cell as compared to the surrounding cell. To stabilize the water potential in the guard cell water rushes from the neighboring cell which creates a cohesion pull in the xylem vessels to pull the water up to the guard cell.

When CO2 passes through lime water, it turns into milky lime water due to formation of insoluble calcium carbonate.
Ca(OH)2 + CO2⇌CaCO3(+) + H2O
IOf CO2 is passed for longer period, turbidity disappears due to form of soluble calcium bicarbonate.
CaCO3 + H2O+ CO2 ⇌ Ca(HCO3)2 .

Combination Reaction: When two or more substances combine to form a single product, the reaction is known as a combination reaction. This reaction is also called addition reaction.
For example: In the laboratory, iron sulphide is prepared by mixing iron and sulphur.
- Fe(s) +S(s) - FeS(s)
- 2Mg (s) + O2 - 2MgO (s)
Magnesium + Oxygen - Magnesium Oxide

Combustion or burning is a complex sequence of exothermic chemical reactions between a fuel and an oxidant accompanied by the production of heat or both heat and light in the form of either a glow or flames.
In a complete combustion reaction, a compound reacts with an oxidizing element, such as oxygen and the products are compounds of each element in the fuel with the oxidizing element.
For example: CH4 + 2O2 → CO2 + 2H2O

When CO2 is passed through lime water for a short duration, it turns lime water milky due to the formation of a white precipitate of calcium carbonate.
Ca(OH) + CO2 → CaCO3 + H2O
When CO2 is passed through lime water for a long time, then white precipitate of calcium carbonate which was formed initially dissolves due to the formation of soluble calcium hydrogen carbonate and solution becomes clear again.
CO2 + CaCO3 + H2O → Ca(HCO3)2
