Each stoma is surrounded by two guard cells. The guards are of kidney shaped and contain chloroplasts. There is a respiratory chamber present in each stoma. The mechanism of the closing and opening of the stomata depends upon the presence of sugar and starch present in the guard cells. In the presence of light, the guard cells of the stomata contain sugar which is synthesized by their chloroplasts. The sugar is soluble and increases the concentration of guard cells. Due to higher concentration of the cytoplasm of guard cells, the water enters into these cells from the neighbouring cells by osmosis. Hence the stomata remains open.
in the absence of light the sugar present in guard cells converts into the starch. The starch is insoluble, and this way the guard cells remains in lower concentration than the of neighbouring cells, and the neighbouring cells take out the water from the guard cells by osmosis making them flaccid and the stomata closed.

The chemical reaction needs to be balanced as, it is only rearrangement of atoms.
Atoms are neither created nor destroyed during a chemical reaction.
Therefore, the chemical reaction needs to be balanced to follow the law of conservation of mass.

The magnetic field produced due to current flowing in a coil or a solenoid can be used to magnetise a material like soft iron temporarily. The insulated copper wire is wrapped on a soft iron piece. When current is passed through the coil using a battery and a key the iron piece behaves like a bar magnet as long as current is being passed. Such a magnet is called an electromagnet.

A reflex arc is a neural pathway that controls an action reflex. In higher animals, most sensory neurons do not pass directly into the brain, but synapse in the spinal cord. This characteristic allows reflex actions to occur relatively quickly by activating spinal motor neurons without the delay of routing signals through the brain, although the brain will receive sensory input while the reflex action occurs. There are two types of reflex arc: autonomic reflex arc (affecting inner organs) and somatic reflex arc (affecting muscles).
A reflex action is an automatic and inborn response to a stimulus that involves a nerve impulse passing from a sensory nerve cell to a muscle or gland without reaching the level of consciousness. Simple reflexes include sucking, swallowing, blinking, scratching, and the knee jerk. Most reflexes consist of complex patterns of many unconsciously coordinated muscular actions that form the basis of much instinctive behavior in animals. Examples include walking, standing, the cat's righting reflex, and basic sexual acts.

Decomposition is a type of chemical reaction. It is defined as the reaction in which a single compound splits into two or more simple substances under suitable conditions. It is just the opposite of the combination reaction.
For example: The digestion of food in our body is accompanied by a number of decomposition reactions. The major constituents of our food such as carbohydrates, fats, proteins, etc.,decompose to form a number of simpler substances. These substances further react, releasing large amounts of energy, which keeps our body working.

Deliquescent substances - certain solid substances, when exposed to air absorb water, enough to form solutions. Example, solid NaOH, CaCl2, CaCl2. 6H2O, P4O10 (forms HPO3), FeCl3, KOH, MgCl2.
Hygroscopic Substances - substances absorb water from air, but not enough to form solutions. Examples of such substances include CaO, NaNO3, NaCl, Sucrose and CuO. Also, certain liquid substances absorb water from the air to get diluted - these are also regarded as being hygroscopic. Example, conc. H2SO4 and conc. HCl.
lf a hydroscopic substance absorbs so much moisture that an aqueous solution is formed, the substance becomes deliquescent.

Contraception is an artificial method or other methods mainly used to prevent or avoid pregnancy as a consequence of sexual intercourse. When a sperm reaches the ova in women, she may become pregnant. Contraception is a method that prevents this phenomenon by:
- Restricting the egg production
- Keeping the egg distinct or far from the sperm
- By stopping the fertilized egg attaching to the lining of the womb

Principal focus is a point on the principal axis where the rays which are incident parallel to the principal axis meet after reflection.
Principal focus is a point on focal plane and is located on the principal axis.
Focus is a point where rays parallel to each other meet. It is not necessary for the rays to be parallel to the principal axis.
These are infinite foci, all lying in a plane called focal plane.

Amoeba takes in food using temporary finger-like extensions of the cell surface which fuse over the food particle forming a food-vacuole. Inside the food vacuole, complex substances are broken down into simpler ones which then diffuse into the cytoplasm. The remaining undigested material is moved to the surface of the cell and thrown out. The complete phagocytosis process includes intake, digestion , absorption, assimilation, and egestion process.

This phenomenon usually occurs in mirrors. |
This phenomenon usually occurs in Lenses. |

Reflection can simply be defined as the reflection of light when it strikes the medium on a plane. |
Refraction can be defined as the process of shift of light when it passes through a medium leading to the bending of light. |
|
The light entering the medium returns back in the same direction. |
The light entering the medium travels from one medium to another. |
|
Considering the light waves, they bounce from the plane and change direction. |
The light waves pass through the surface while simultaneously change from medium to medium. |
|
The angle of incidence of the light is equal to the angle of reflection. |
The angle of incidence is not equal to the angle of reflection. |

All the living organisms need energy to perform various life processes. They get this energy from food. Thus, food is the basic requirement of all living organisms. (a) it is needed for the following purposes (b) it provides energy for various metabolic processes in the body. (c) it is essential for the growth of new cells and repair or replacement of workout cells, (d) it is needed to develop resistance against various diseases. Thus nutrition is a necessity for an organism.

Opening of stomata: Solutes from neighbouring epidermal and mesophyll cells enter the guard cells lowering its osmotic potential and water potential. This lowered water potential and osmotic potential will allow movement of water into guard cells from neighbouring cells. Guard cells become turgid due to water accumulation in them which results in the opening of the guard cells.
Closing of stomata: As the somata open the solute concentration is reduced. This makes the water from the guard cells to move away into neighbouring cells. Now, guard cells becom flaccid with no water. They collapse against each other and result in the closing of stomata.
