Homologous Series
- A series of carbon compounds in which same functional group substitutes the hydrogen atom is called a homologous series.
- These compounds have similar chemical properties due to the addition of same kind of functional group throughout the chain.
- For example, the series of alkanes i.e. Methane, ethane, propane, butane and so on is a homologous series.

- Similarly the series of alkene and alkynes also forms homologous series.
Homologous series of alkenes are as follows:

They have electric charges free to move. |
They have electric charges which are not free to move. |
|
When some charge is transferred to a conductor, it readily distributes over the entire surface. |
When some charge is transferred to an insulator, it remains at the same place over the surface. |

pH is defined as the measure of hydrogen ion concentration which is used for measuring the acidity or alkalinity of a given solution.
Following is the equation that is used for calculating the pH:
pH = -log[H+]
Values of pH
- The range of the pH scale varies from 0 to 14
- Solutions having a value of pH ranging 0 to 7 on pH scale are known as acidic and for the value of pH ranging 7 to 14 on pH scale are called basic solutions.
- Solutions having the value of pH equal to 7 on pH scale are termed as neutral solutions.

Xylem tissues include tracheids, vessels, fibres and parenchyma and serve in the ascent of sap/water and minerals. Phloem tissues is a composed of four elements namely, sieve elements, companion cell, phloem fibres and phloem parenchyma and serve in translocation of organic nutrients. Transfer RNA (tRNA) serve as carrier RNA and transports amino acids from cell pool to the mRNA bound to the ribosome where the protein is being synthesized. Haemoglobin molecule contains four polypeptide chains and four heme prosthetic groups. It serves as a carrier of oxygen gas.

Excretion refers to removal of metabolic waste from body. This makes kidneys part of excretory system. Nutrition refers to obtaining the food to meet the energy requirement for growth and development. Respiration refers to the process that allows entry of oxygen from air to blood and exit of carbon dioxide from blood to air. Transportation refers to movement of materials, mainly nutrients and gases, from one organ to other.
