Chemistry is interesting and creative: Our world is made out of atoms, molecules and ions. Their behavior determines the properties of the substances we encounter in our daily lives: their structure, color, smell, and the way they interact with each other. Chemists use this knowledge in a creative way.

It is this scattered light that gives the surrounding sky its brightness and its color. As previously stated, Rayleigh scattering is inversely proportional to the fourth power of wavelength, so that shorter wavelength violet and blue light will scatter more than the longer wavelengths (yellow and especially red light).

Adithya Dev A 4 years, 5 months ago

The Snell's Law of refraction states that the ratio of sine of angle of incidence to that of angle of refraction for a given pair of media is always a constant ie, sin-i/sin-r = constant (n). This constant is also known as REFRACTIVE INDEX of the medium.

Incredible Foxtrot 4 years, 5 months ago

The medium with high optical density is called denser medium The medium with low optical density is called rarer medium

Adithya Dev A 4 years, 5 months ago

A medium with low optical density is known as an OPTICALLY RARER medium. This medium has lower refractive index and speed of light is high here. Whereas, a medium with high optical density is known as an OPTICALLY DENSER medium. This medium has higher refractive index and speed of light is low here. Eg :- Air is an optically RARER medium and diamond is an optically DENSER medium.
The medium in which light bends towards the normal is known as denser medium and in which it moves away from the normal it is known as rarer medium, for example- air is rarer and water is denser medium as compared both of them.
