Use app Login Question A train covered a certain distance at a uniform speed. If the train would have been 10 km/h faster, it would have taken 2 hours less than the scheduled time. And, if the train were slower by 10 km/h; it would have taken 3 hours more than the scheduled time. Find the distance covered by the train. Hard Open in App Solution Verified by Toppr Let the speed of the train be xkm/h and the time taken by train to travel the given distance be t hours and the distance to travel be dkm. We know that, ⇒Speed=TimeDistance ⇒x=td ∴d=xt.......(i) Case 1 ⇒(x+10)×(t−2)=d ⇒xt+10t−2x−20=d ⇒d+10t−2x−20=d ⇒−2x+10t=20...... (ii) Case 2 ⇒(x−10)×(t+3)=d ⇒xt−10t+3x−30=d ⇒d−10t+3x−30=d ⇒3x−10t=30......... (iii) Adding equations (ii) and (iii), we gets  ⇒x=50 Substitute the value of x in (ii) we gets ⇒(−2)×(50)+10t=20 ⇒−100+10t=20 ⇒10t=120 ⇒t=12 hours Substitue the value of t  and x in  equation (i), we gets Distance to travel =d=xt ⇒d=12×50=600Km   Hence, the distance covered by the train is 600km.

×y=18-eq(i) 10×+y-63=10y+× On solving 9×-9y=63(-63 changed into +63 on shifting it towards right) On dividing the whole eqn by 9 ×-y=7-eq(ii) ×=7+y On putting the value of eq(ii) in eq(i) We get (7+y)y=18 Y2+7y-18 Y2+9x-2x-18 Y(y+9)-2(y+9) Y=-9 Or Y=2 ×y=18 2x=18( 2 is the value of y) ×=18÷2=9 Now you check your answer by putting both x and y value in any of the on one eqn Hope this will help you.....!

Assume the present age of Aftab be x years and his daughter be y years. Present age of Aftab = x years and his daughter = y years Therefore, 7 years ago, age of Aftab = (x - 7) years and his daughter = (y - 7) years Using this information and applying the known condition that 7 years ago, Aftab was 7 times as old as his daughter then: x - 7 = 7(y - 7) x - 7 = 7y - 49 x - 7y - 7 + 49 = 0 x - 7y + 42 = 0 After 3 years from now, age of Aftab = (x + 3) years and his daughter's age = (y + 3) years Also, Aftab will be 3 times as old as his daughter which can be represented as: x + 3 = 3 (y + 3) x + 3 = 3y + 9 x - 3y + 3 - 9 = 0 x - 3y - 6 = 0 Thus we have, x - 7y + 42 = 0 ----(1) x - 3y - 6 = 0 ----(2) Therefore, the algebraic representation is for equation (1) is: x - 7y + 42 = 0 -7y = - x - 42 7y = x + 42 y = (x + 42)/7 And, algebraic representation for equation (2) is: x - 3y - 6 = 0 - 3y = - x + 6 3y = x - 6 y = (x - 6)/3 Let us represent these equations graphically. For this, we need at least two solutions for each equation. Let's tabulate the solutions. For equation (1), x = 21 y = (x + 42)/7 = 9 For equation (2), x =30 y = (x - 6)/3= 8. By doing graphical representation we got The present age of aftab 52 years and his daughter is 12 years old
