Let the first term of AP = a....... common difference = d......... We have to show that (m+n)th term is zero or a + (m+n-1)d = 0........ mth term = a + (m-1)d....... nth term = a + (n-1) d........ Given that m{a +(m-1)d} = n{a + (n -1)d}...... ⇒ am + m²d -md = an + n²d - nd am - an + m²d - n²d -md + nd = 0........ ⇒ a(m-n) + (m²-n²)d - (m-n)d = 0........ ⇒ a(m-n) + {(m-n)(m+n)}d -(m-n)d = 0....... ⇒ a(m-n) + {(m-n)(m+n) - (m-n)} d = 0....... ⇒ a(m-n)  + (m-n)(m+n -1) d  = 0........ ⇒ (m-n){a + (m+n-1)d} = 0 ....... ⇒ a + (m+n -1)d = 0/(m-n)....... ⇒ a + (m+n -1)d = 0...... Given that (a-b) x + (a + b)y = a2 - 2ab - b2 -------------(1)

(a+b) x+ (a+b)y = a2 + b2 -------------(2)

Substracting (2) from (1) we get

-2bx = -2ab

=2b2 x = a + b

Subsitute x in equation (2) we get y = - 2ab / ( a + b).

So, 2 sin ^2 30°-3cos^2 45° +tan^2 60°

To prove 1/√2 is irrational............. Let us assume that √2 is irrational .......... 1/√2 = p/q (where p and q are co prime)........ q/p = √2......... q     = √2p....... squaring both sides......... q²   = 2p²                                                  .....................(1) By theorem ...... q is divisible by 2....... ∴ q = 2c ( where c is an integer).......  putting the value of q in equitation 1....... 2p² = q² = 2c² =4c² ...... p² =4c² /2 = 2c²..... p²/2 = c² ..... by theorem p is also divisible by 2..... But p and q are coprime........ This is a contradiction which has arisen due to our wrong assumption.... ∴1/√2 is irrational

The given details are,....... Percentage Rohit deposited in bank = 12% of total income..... Rohit deposited money during the year 1997 = Rs 1440...... So, let us consider the total income of Rohit as Rs x...... By calculating,...... (x/100) × 12 = 1440.... By cross multiplying...... x = (1440×100)/22...... = 12000....... ∴ Rohit’s total income for the year 1997 is Rs 12000.......

This theorem also says that the prime factorisation of a natural number is unique, except for the order of its factors. For example 20 can be expressed as 2×2×5. Using this theorem the LCM and HCF of the given pair of positive integers can be calculated.

Speed upstream= (x - y) km/h

Speed downstream= (x + y) km/h

On subtracting, we get,

On solving, we get,

Speed of boat in still water = 8 km/h

And, Speed of stream = 3 km/h

Euclid division lemma:-

a=bq+r

First find the HCF of 693 and 567,

693=567(1)+126

567=126(4)+63

126=63(2)+0

HCF of 693 and 567 is 63.

Now find the HCF of 63 and 441,

441=63(7)+0

The HCF of 63 and 441 is 63.

Therefore, the HCF of 441,567 and 693 is 63.

Q: Use Euclid's division lemma to show that the cube of any positive integer is of the form 9m,9m+1 or 9m+8

Let be any positive integer. Then, it is of the form 3or, 3+ 1 or, 3+ 2.

So, we have the following cases :

Case I : When = 3q.

then, x3 = (3q)3 = 27q3 = 9 (3q3) = 9m, where = 3q3.

Case II : When = 3+ 1

then, x3 = (3+ 1)3

= 27q3 + 27q2 + 9+ 1

= 9 (3q2 + 3+ 1) + 1

= 9+ 1, where (3q2 + 3+ 1)

Case III. When = 3+ 2

then, x3 = (3+ 2)3

= 27 q3 + 54q2 + 36+ 8

= 9(3q2 + 6+ 4) + 8

= 9 + 8, where (3q2 + 6+ 4)

Hence, xis either of the form 9 or 9 + 1 or, 9 + 8.
