they both have 55 marbles.so, ram has x no. of marbles and shyam has 55-x no. of marbles. both of lost 5 marbles each so now, no. of marbles Ram has=x-5 no. of marbles Shyam has = 55 - x - 5 = 50 - x now, (x - 5)(50 - x)= 164 50x - x^2 - 250 + 5x = 164 -x^2 + 55x - 250 = 164 -x^2 +55x -414=0 -(x^2 -55x + 414)= 0 x^2 - 55x +414 = 0 x^2 - 46x - 9x - 414 = 0 x(x - 46) -9(x - 46) = 0 (x - 46 )(x - 9) = 0 x = 46,9 so, the no. of marbles Ram and shyam had to start with are 46 and 9 marbles respectively or vice versa.

If possible root 5 is rational no. 5=p/q( where q not equal 0 ,, p/q having no factors other than 1) Squaring both sides 5=P2/q2 P2=5q2....1 P2 is divisible by5 P is also divisible by 5 Putting p=5 in 1 (5m)2=5q2 25m2=5q2 5m2 =q2 q2 is divisible by 5 q is also divisible by 5 5 is common factors of p and q This is contradiction So,our assumption is wrong Root 5 is irrational no.

Rohit Singh 4 years, 5 months ago

Let us assume the given number be rational and we will write the given number in p/q form ⇒5− 3 = q p ⇒ 3 = q 5q−p We observe that LHS is irrational and RHS is rational, which is not possible. This is contradiction. Hence our assumption that given number is rational is false ⇒5− 3 is irrational

⇒Let side of bigger square is x m. And side of smaller square is y m. According to given condition, x² + y²=260...(1) And 4x–4y=24 ⇒4(x–y)=24 ⇒x–y=6 ⇒x=6+y...(2) Putting values of (2)and (1) ⇒(6+y)2+y²=260 ⇒36+y²+12y+y²=260 ⇒2y²+12y–224=0 ⇒y²+6y–112=0 ⇒y²+14y–5y–112=0 ⇒y(y+14)–8(y+14)=0 ⇒(y–8)(y+14)=0 ⇒y–8=0,y+14=0 ⇒y=8, y=–14 Putting the values of y in(1) ⇒x=6+y =6+8=14 Hence, sides of squares are 14 m and 8m.

X=3. Y=2

Aman Gupta 4 years, 5 months ago

X=3 Y=2

Somesh Smruti 4 years, 5 months ago

3X+Y=11 - X-Y=5 = 2X=6 So X=6/2=3 Put value of x and the value of Y will be 2 ..... This is done by elimination method

Atul Kushawha 4 years, 5 months ago

You can do it by elimination method Let X+Y=5 be 1st eqn. And 3X+Y=11 be 2nd eqn. Subtract eqn. 2 from 1 This became 2X=6 X=3 Put value of X in eqn.1 Y=2
