CBSE as a pace setting national Board has constantly been striving to design its evaluation

process in a manner that it is used as a powerful means of influencing the quality of teaching and learning

in the classroom situation. Also, it has to be so designed that it provides constant feedback regarding

the effectiveness of the course content, classroom processes and the growth of individual learners

besides the appropriateness of evaluation procedures.

As a move in this direction, CBSE started the practice of publishing the Marking Schemes with

twin objectives in mind-(i) making the system more transparent and at the same time, (ii) ensuring high

degree of reliability in scoring procedure.

Who are the markers of answer scripts? How do they mark the answer scripts? How can it be

ensured that marking is fair, objective and reliable? Questions of these types naturally arise in the minds

of candidates appearing in the public examination. These questions are equally pertinent to the teachers

who are not adequately exposed to the CBSE system of marking.

Answer Scripts marking is a specialised job. It is assigned to teachers-PGTs for Class XII and

TGTs for Class X who are in direct touch with the subject and have a minimum of 3 years experience

of teaching the subject at that level. Appointment of examiners is made in accordance with the well-

defined norms. Markers examine scripts with the help of datailed guidelines called the 'Marking Schemes'.

It is this tool (Marking Scheme) alongwith the extensive supervisory checks and counter-checks

through which CBSE tries to ensure objective and fair marking. The present publication is being brought

out with a view to serving the following objectives :

(i) To give an opportunity to the teachers and students to look into the Marking Schemes that

were developed by the Board and supplied to the evaluators in 2011 main examination in

some selected main subjects.

(ii) To receive feedback and suggestions from institutions/subject teachers on the utility and

further improvement of Marking Schemes.

(iii) To encourage institutions to undertake similar exercise of developing marking schemes for

classes other than those covered by the Board's examination with a view to increasing

Bholi was simple, quiet and sensitive girl. At a very young age she suffered from head injury and small pox which left dark marks on her. She couldn't till she was five. Seeing Bholi like this her family members also didn't bother to care. After going to school, she started speaking by her teachers help. With that she also became bold, confident and independent. Her confident and bold attitude to raise her voice against a social evil proved that she was educated in true sense of terms.

Every year with board exams approaching, schools and colleges work hard to prepare their students While educational institutions compete hard to ensure good results, they also make sure their student don’t face stress. The stress that the Board exams have started creating is a recent phenomenon. which has been created due to the highly competitive world we are heading into. Students often make securing high marks in boards as a life and death issue. This is also because the cut-off d many colleges is so high that many children miss their chance of studying in it and, therefore, art under pressure from parents, family and friends. All these pressures affect the mental health of children as they become nervous before the exams so much so they become even mentally blank and forget as they appear for a paper. Therefore, counselling before the board exams is very essential for better performance and health of the children. These counselling sessions give children some mental support and strength to use their energy in a positive manner. Most schools are now taking to these counselling sessions for better results. These counselling sessions are not only for students but also for parents. A counsellor in these sessions does not only talk and try to de-stress the child but also guides him too long to adopt a better lifestyle. The only thing that can help children deal with stress and not lose their important years of life and innocence of childhood counselling before board exams are important.

subject- Views on the verdict of the supreme court

Dear Sir,

This is Rachna Sen, a local householder, managing a residentiary in the Rohini area. I saw disclaimers that citizens and natives are welcome to share their views on the recent verdict of the supreme court and that happened to make me write this letter.

Parents when are old need the support and affection of their sons and daughters. It is evident that in multiple affairs, the children live at a separate place, for career purposes and other reasons away from their parents, divided by state or even overseas borders. As much as the parents need the care of their children at this delicate age, the children need to secure their future for taking care of their family. It is a great initiative of the supreme court to unite the family but at the same time the strict tone of the verdict that says ' they will have no right of inheritance' also pressurizes the children. They might be living away under compulsion but should manage their responsibilities at the same time. Taking care of parents and inheritance should not be linked as it should be performed with utmost affection and unconditionally. Children should not be conditioned with something in return. Children leaving away from their parents, take care of them at the same time and if they don't they should be penalized.

These were my opinions and views over the verdict. I have my old parents to take care of and I completely relate to this particular verdict.

Yours sincerely

Rachna,

A native.

42/D, Deepalay, Bibek nagar Middle Row Helabattala, Barasat Kolkata,700125 The Editor, Delhi News Network, Daryaganj, New Delhi-110022 Dear Sir, I am a resident of Kolkata, who has come for a two years job recently in New Delhi. While starting out my new job, I have come across a newspaper of yours in my home, which stated that Supreme Court has taken necessary steps to pass a order which furnishes every citizen with the duty to look after their parents. I have realised it's importance. Nowadays, very few children heed to look after their parents and take their duties, their responsibilities. Though they have a place to keep pets in their house, their parents turn out to be their burden, thus sending them to Old Age home as the alternative. This is due to the selfishness and relentless behavior of us towards our parents. We feel that we were dependent and were tied with the shackles of the admonition of our parents. As we are released, we are active to firstly throw them out of our house as a mark of the disposal of wastes. This should be prevented. We could not forget that parents are those who guard us like the Himalayas from the bitterly cold influence of the evil and protect us from any perilous hurdles that obstruct our success. I wish you could kindly help me with the initiative to preach this message so that every dreary chamber of the hearts of parents are filled with the sunshine of love. Thanking you, Yours faithfully, Rachna Pandey

When you write a 6 mark question, be sure that you understood the question very well. Analyse the question and find out the chapter from which it is asked. Write down the points which comes just before the given sentence. Explain why/how/what/when/where the sentence happens. For example:- How did Tricki recover at the surgery? (Mrs. Pumphrey Tricki's owned fed Tricki a lot. Eventhough Dr. Herriot advised to cut down his food intake, she kept on giving him lots of food and a little extras to keep him always from malnutrition. This caused Tricki to become sick.) Then move on to the explanation of how Tricki was treated at the surgery. Include these points too. * Plenty of water, no food * Started interest in surroundings on the 2nd day * On the third day started playing with them * No medications only exercise and diet. *Mrs Pumphrey sends eggs, wine, brandy, etc.

Exams are an integral part of education, and they can be a source of stress and anxiety for both students and educators alike. Examining exams is essential to ensure that they are both fair and effective in evaluating a student's knowledge and understanding of a subject. The first step in examining exams is to determine what type of exam is best suited to the subject matter. Certain subjects may require a written exam, while others may require a practical test such as a lab-based experiment. It is important to consider the objectives of the course and the nature of the material when determining the type of exam that should be given. The next step is to develop the exam. This should include designing the questions and deciding how they will be graded. The questions should cover the material that was taught in the course and be representative of the subject matter. The grading criteria should be clear and consistent, and should be based on the objectives of the course. Once the exam has been designed, it should be tested to ensure that it is fair and effective. The best way to do this is to have a group of students take the exam and have their results evaluated. This will allow for an assessment of the exam's fairness and effectiveness, as well as provide feedback that can be used to improve the exam for future use. Finally, it is important to review the results of the exam. This should include an analysis of the students' performance on each question and an overall assessment of the exam's effectiveness. This will help to determine if the exam was successful in evaluating the students' understanding of the material. By examining exams, educators can ensure that they are fair and effective in assessing a student's knowledge and understanding of a subject. This will help to ensure that students receive the best possible education and that the objectives of the course are met. Examining exams is an essential part of ensuring a high-quality education for all students.
