Griffin was
the lead character in the novel. He was an albino. Though he had many great
qualities, yet he had many flaws in his character. Griffin was a man who had no
conscience, was callous towards other people and simply self-centered. He
appeared to be at war with the entire mankind. All his actions stemmed from his
desire to save himself, with not a thought of care and sympathy for others. He
did many mean acts in the novel. When he was short of money he continued his
experiments, without any thoughts of the consequences, he robed his own father,
who committed suicide because the money was not his. He attended his father’s
funeral without feeling sorry for his own act; instead he blamed his father for
being a sentimental fool. He experimented on a cat, with no concern for the
poor creature’s cries of pain. He threw it out and never tried to find whether
it was alive or dead. He burnt down the house at Great Portland Street when the
landlord and his sons found about his experiments and were horrified. He was
only worried about covering his trail.
Even after
becoming invisible he committed one brutal act after another, not because they
were necessary for his survival, but simply because he enjoyed doing them. The
way he looted his owner of a small costume shop, and left after striking the
old man on his head, spoke volumes about his inhumanity. He terrorized Marvel
when he was on the run, fought with the policemen. His plan to spread reign of
terror among people using his powers of invisibility really shocked Dr. Kemp.
He even tried to kill him for betraying him. In his final run from the people
hunting him, he killed an old man with a rod because he bumped into him.

The young seagull had a great fear of flying. His parents chided him for it. They tried their best to encourage him to fly, but it went all in vain. His mother played many tricks on him. Sometimes, she flew away from the ledge and left him alone. He came out and tried to flap his wings, but his fear seized him and again he went inside. She threatened him that he would die of hunger as she did not feed him for a few days. Even then he could not gather the courage for flying. But this trick worked and he tried to make his first attempt. Soon he started flying. Thus his mother helped him to learn flying. It was clear that without the help of his mother, the young seagull could not have taken his first flight.

In all aspects, the title of the story 'A Triumph of Surgery’ is quite appropriate. In fact, the title is based on the main idea of the story. This chapter is all about the surgery and its triumph. Surgery refers to medical support and treatment. Mrs. Pumphrey, who is a very rich woman, has a pet dog named Tricki. She can’t see it in any trouble. She loves it so much that she becomes responsible for its over-eating. Tricki falls ill. She becomes very sad and calls the doctor, Mr. Herriot, who is a veterinary surgeon. He admits Tricki to the hospital for surgery. In reality, he cuts its diet and makes it do some hard exercise. It becomes well after treatment. The irony is that the doctor understands the cause and remedy of the problem and treats the dog without any real surgery. But Mrs. Pumphrey thinks that the dog's recovery is a triumph of surgery because of the dog's plight. When Tricki is brought to the surgery, it is very ill. But at the end of the story, it is full of energy and has no ailment. So the title is quite appropriate.

Anil is a twenty-five years old man. He is a writer by profession, who writes for a magazine to earn his livelihood. He is an easy-going, simple, honest and kind person. He is so humble in nature that he gives Hari Singh a shelter in his home. Although he does not have any clear information about Hari Singh, he trusts him. He does not say anything when he comes to know that Hari Singh has started saving money from daily supplies. He prepares tea himself and serves to Hari Singh. All this shows that he is the most trustworthy and helpful person that Hari SIngh has ever met in his life. Whenever Anil gets some money, he spends it on his friends. This shows that he is not at all greedy. He even teaches Hari Singh to write sentences and to add numbers. He knows that if Hari Singh gets an education, he will be able to lead a respectable life. This shows his helping attitude towards other people. Thus, we find many good qualities in Anil’s character.

In the poem, 'Fire and Ice', the poet, presents the two of the darkest traits of humanity, hatred and lust or desire. Of the two, he attributes, the greater of the two evils is desire. In giving desire the foremost position with regard to the destruction of the world, he provides a powerful statement on the subject of greed and jealousy. He says that lust is above all the traits of humanity and is most likely to lead to its demise. Desire represents the greatest problem that attributes to the cause of war. He then attributes hatred with the same capacity to do harm. However, he lessens the relative importance of hatred but still presents it as having the ability to lead to the destruction of the world if it were to happen for a second time, as there is enough hatred in the world.

He wrote a letter to God to send a hundred pesos. The postman got the letter and he showed it to the postmaster. He was very impressed by his faith in God. The postmaster gave a part of his salary and collected some money from his friends and employees. He sent it to him. Lencho received a letter with money, he was not surprised at all. But after counting the money, he became angry. He got only seventy pesos. He thought that thirty pesos had been taken by the post office employees. He wrote the other letter to God asking for the remaining amount and called the post-office employees "a bunch of crooks".
