The repetition is a literary device that repeats the same words or phrases to emphasize a concept. Here, in the poem the repetition of 'quiet' is used to emphasize the tiger's helpless silence. ‘Velvet quiet’ refers to the quiet velvet pads of the tiger, which cannot run or leap. They can only walk around the limited space in the cage. It also gives prominence to the rage that is building inside the tiger. The tiger wants to wander in the wild but he has to walk with quiet steps in his little cage unwillingly. The poet has repeated 'brilliant' to bring into notice the tiger's aspiration for freedom. As we know, a tiger's eyes are shining and glowing. With those shining eyes, he keeps staring at the shining stars and wishes to free like them. As the stars are inhabiting a place which is their natural home, the tiger also wants to wander around in the forest because that is the place where he belongs to.

Wanda Petronski was a Polish immigrant. She was a socially outcast student who was often teased by the other students of the school and used to live in an impoverished area - Boggins Heights. Wanda used to wear the same faded, yet clean, blue dress to school each day. She sat in the last seat in the last row of her classroom, amidst the troublemakers, and was generally ignored by her teacher and by her fellow students. She was a very serene girl who laughed very rarely. She was very talented, skilled and patient.

Yes, I would like to become invisible but only if I could get back to normal. It would be a unique and adventurous experience. I would be able to free people caught in the vicious circle of crime, help the police catch criminals and help the deprived sections of the society. I would not like to convert myself into an invisible creature forever as it would deprive me of all the benefits of being a human and my family and friends.

If I take a firm stand as a citizen, I am sure I will be able to do all the things even when visible. It is just about how determined a person is.

“Janny” Hall, better known as Mrs Hall, is the owner of the “Coach and Horses” inn at Iping in Sussex. Mrs. Hall is a very friendly, down-to-earth woman who enjoys socialising with her guests, This she had proved by asking for the stranger’s coat to let it dry in the kitchen. She tried to get into conversation with her visitor and narrated her nephew’s injury by a knife. Mrs. Hall is continually frustrated by the mysterious Griffin’s refusal to talk with her, and his repeated tantrums. The first time we encounter her, she appears to be an opportunist. She gives the Stranger a room in her inn without showing much concern to confirm his identity.

Mrs Hall is also money-minded. She accommodates Griffin’s rudeness and awkward behaviour only because she was being paid. However, she has a courteous side also, which we see when she tries to know about Griffin’s physical impairment and shows sympathy for him.

Mrs Hall is superstitious and believes that her furniture was haunted. She is a dominating wife and doesn’t shy away from giving her husband lectures. Moreover, she can put her foot down if required. When she had had enough of the stranger’s rudeness, Mrs Hall decided to set him straight and stopped serving him. She replied in such an angry tone that Griffin had to back off.

The greatest fear for every creature in this world is of death and danger. For man failure is an added fear.

Overcoming this fear is the first step to success.

In the story 'His first flight' by Liam O' Flaherty, the author expresses the fear of a baby sea gull in taking his first flight.

A sea gull family had nestled on a cliff above the sea. When the baby sea gulls grew of age to fly the parent sea gulls escorted them to take their first flight.

All except one sea gull successfully completed their first flight and consequently the flew away to a newer habitat.

But one particular sea gull was too afraid to take his first flight. He refused to fly off the ledge in fear of falling. His mother could not get him to muster up courage to take the flight.

Finally ridden by hunger and desperation he takes the plunge. Immediately he overcomes his fear and soars gleefully over the sea.

Thus his first flight establishes the fact that 'Overcoming fear is the first step to success.'

Lencho had complete faith in God. He had been instructed that God’s eyes see everything, even what is deep in one’s conscience.  Lencho had immense faith in God: he sent a letter to God with the belief that God would send him the hundred pesos he had asked for to make up for the loss of his crops.

  • Faith is, one should follow one's purpose. One should have faith in his dream his beliefs and everything that makes him more strong individual in the world. The farmer, Lencho in the story had immense faith in God and so he wrote a letter to God since his crop had been destroyed in the hail storm.
  • Lencho sent to God a letter requesting 100 pesoshaving an utmost belief and unshaken faith in God. This money was enough to sow his crop again. In his early years he was told that even through one's consciences, God will see everything. He learned that nobody would suffer and die of starvation.
