M Hamel wrote; Vive la franz/Viva la France on the blackboard at the end of his last class in the school. It means- Long live France! He wrote this because he was deeply saddened by the fact that Germans have come in their country and are imposing German language on them. And as it was his last day teaching French to the students and he loved the French language as he believed it was the most beautiful language, he wanted it to live long. He wanted France to live long.

Bill told the lawyer that Lutkins was a hard fellow to catch and he was good at deceiving people. He was always up to something or the other. He also said that Oliver played a lot of poker. Considering that the lawyer had come to collect some money from Lutkins, he informed him that Lutkins owed money to many people but he had never even paid anybody a cent.

The lawyer served as a junior assistant clerk in a magnificent law firm. He was sent to New Mullion to serve summons on Oliver Lutkins, who was needed as a witness in a law case.
He was frustrated by the routine life of the city. As new Mullion was located forty miles in the country, he expected New Mullion to be a sweet and simple country village.

Valli did not want to make friends with the elderly woman because she found her absolutely repulsive. She saw that the woman had big holes in her ear lobes and very ugly earrings in them. She could smell the betel nut the woman was chewing, and could see the betel juice that was almost about to spill over her lips.

As she started her bus journey, she saw on one side there was the canal and, beyond it, palm trees, grassland, distant mountains, and the blue sky. On the other side was a deep ditch and then acres and acres of green fields. Then the bus rolled on cutting across a bare landscape. She also saw trees along the way. She also saw a young cow running very fast, right in the middle of the road. Then the bus came to a railroad crossing. Valli saw a train approaching from far and it looked very tiny. From there it traversed a busy, well-laid-out shopping street. She was surprised to see the bright looking shops and the clothes on display. She was delighted by the sights that she saw. On the way back, she saw a cow lying dead on the road. This made her very sad. Her view about the world and what happened in the world changed after the trip.

An ironic situation is strange or amusing because it is the opposite of what is expected.) A. Lencho thought that it is the postmaster or the employees of the post-office who had stolen his remaining amount, as is evident from his second letter to God where he requests the deity not to send money by mail next time.

Maddie was a kind and compassionate American girl. She joined other girls in teasing Wanda. But she really didn’t like teasing others. She wanted to stop Peggy from teasing Wanda. But she could not gather courage as she was afraid of Peggy. She feared Peggy could make her the next victim. She considered herself to be guiltier for remaining silent. When Wanda left the school, she felt very restless and could not sleep at night. She went to Wanda’s house to say sorry and decided not to remain silent if anybody was being teased for their poor dress or funny name. She would speak up. She was even ready to sacrifice her friendship with Peggy.

Ebright initiated his research on the monarch pupa by studying the purpose of the twelve gold spots on its body. He discovered that these spots produced a hormone which helped in butterfly's full development. Later, he proved that the absence of that hormone would make monarch a normal butterfly. He cultured the hormones and identified its chemical structure. It led to his theory of cell life.
