Yes, we can say that Griffin was a lawless person. He didn't follow the law and order of the country as he thought of having his revenge by setting out fire in his landlord's property. He didn't believe in observing law. He robbed a shopkeeper of all the money he could find. In addition to that, he hit him hard from behind to escape without being seen. He stole the housekeeping money from the clergyman's desk. He also attacked Mrs. Hall with his cap and her furniture when she intruded his room. All these instances prove that he was a lawless person.

ccording to Helen her father was very loving and indulgent towards his family. He was fully devoted to his home.He seldom left his family except in the Hunting season. He was a great hunter and the celebrated shot. Next to his family he loved his dogs and guns. He was a hospitable man who enjoyed bringing guests home. He loved to show the guests his beautiful garden where he raised the finest watermelons and strawberries in the country. He would bring the first ripe grapes and the choicest berries for Helen. Helen remembers her father's caressing touch as he led her from tree to tree and from vine to vine. She also remembers his eager delight in whatever pleased Helen.
Helen's father Arthur H Keller was formerly the captain in the Confederate army. He was a caring father. He was a good storyteller. When Helen had learnt manual alphabet he used to spell into Helen’s hand his clever anecdotes. It was he who brought light in Helen's life through Miss Sullivan.
In 1896 Helen was in the North ,enjoying the last beautiful days of the summer when she heard the news of a father's death. This was Helen's first great sorrow. It was her first personal experience with death.
