When Bholi was ten months old she fell from her cot and damaged a part of her brain. She was very fair and pretty at birth but when she was two years old she had an attack of small pox and her body was permanently disfigured by the black deep pock - marks. She learnt to speak at five. Bholi is not able to speak clearly and she stammers when she speak. She is neither very pretty nor street- smart . She has a fear in her heart which does not let her mingle with others. That is why she is different from others. But the society does not tolerate difference easily. No one likes her and she becomes an object of laughter and neglect. They all ridicule her and made fun of her. As a result she talked very little and has isolated herself. To add to her agony ,her parents don't treat het fairly. They to consider her ugly and never make new clothes for her or encourage her. Instead of supporting and encouraging her , her mother considers her as witless and call her a dumb cow .

Bholi was neither good looks nor intelligence. Her entire body was disfigured by the small black pok-marks. She never got any attention from her family. She never got new dress to wear nor anybody was interested in mending and washing her clothes. Thus we saw that Bholi never got any attention and was neglected by her family.. Yes,parents like Mrs Pumphery definitely exist.These people spoil their children by ptaking sure all their demands are met.They spoil their children in the name of love and care.Such overprotective parental behaviour hinders their growth as adults.In fact it sows the seeds of greed and dependency inthem they become stubborn and do not learn to value anything.For them,hard work is a myth as they get everything easily.Over pampered children often fail to face the hardships of life later,asfor them life has been a cakewalk.Pampering childrenin moderation is healthy,but excess of it is harmful.Itis not just bad for human but also for animals,as we see in the story'A triumph of Surgery'.

Nelson Mandela, the first Black president of South Africa, after more than 3 centuries of white rule, celebrated very vividly the grand ceremony of the first democratic non-racial government. Being sworn in, he said radiantly that “Never, never again shall it be that this beautiful land will again experience the oppression of one by another”. He pays homage to the freedom fighters like Oliver Tambo, Luthuli, Yusuf Dadoo. They were men of uncommon courage, wisdom and generosity. The poet talks about trees symbolically. They refer to women who have been healed and are ready to move out of their houses to fulfil their primary purpose - to renew the forest of mankind. As women have remained indoors, the forest has become empty, the birds and insects rendered shelterless. The Sun’s rays do not have the tree trucks and leaves to fall upon and thus, reach the earth. She says that the forest will be full of trees the next morning. The roots of the trees are working hard to separate from the floor of the veranda where they have remained fixed. The leaves and branches are moving towards the glass windows. They are desperate to move out just like a newly discharged patient who has not recovered completely, moves to the exit door of the hospital in a hurry. The poet is sitting in her house with the doors of the veranda open. She is writing letters but does not mention this movement of the trees. It is night time, the sky is clear and a bright moon is visible. She can smell the leaves and lichen which seem to be calling out desperately. She hears the glass of the window pane breaking. The trees are moving out and the fast blowing wind embraces them. As the trees have reached the forest, the tall and strong oak tree overshadows the moon and it seems that the moon has been broken into several pieces.
