(i) A farmer having 1 hectare of land for farming is called a subsistence farmer because 1 hectare of land is too less for even the sustenance of a small family.  
(ii) Production is very low and it is very difficult for the farmer to provide for his family.  
(iii) Apart from working on his own field he has to work on the field of the rich farmers or work as a casual labourer to survive.  
(iv) The small farmer has no irrigation facilities.  
(v) He has no working capital so he is also not able to buy modern machinery, HYV seeds or insecticides and pesticides.  
(vi) In the absence of capital, he has to take loan from moneylender who charges a high interest rate. He is rarely able to repay the loan and eventually falls into a debt trap.

It helps the citizens in moving court in case of violation of their fundamental rights.  It also sees that the government does not violate or disrespect the Fundamental Rights of the citizens.

Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) is launched in 2000 for ensuring food security among the poorest of the poor by the Government of India.
Main features of AAY are
(i) Under the scheme the poorest among the BPL families were identified for the targeted public distribution system.
(ii) Poor families were identified by the respective state rural development departments through the BPL survey.
(iii) 25 Kg (revised to 35 kg in 2002) of food grains were made available to each eligible family at a highly subsidised rate of Rs. 2/ kg for wheat and Rs. 3/ kg for rice.

ADVANCING MONSOON:- 1-Advancing monsoon falls between June-September. 2- It is a season of heavy rainfall. 3-The advance of monsoon is characterised by wet and dry spellls of rainfall. The intervening spell of dryness is called 'Breaks' in monsoon. 4- During this season, most of the rainfall occurs by South-West monsoon. RETREATING MONSOON:- 1-Retreating monsoon falls between October and November. 2-It is period of transition from hot rainy season to dry Winter conditions. 3-The withdrawal of monsoon is marked by clear skies and rise in temperature. The condition of high temperature and humidity lead to a phenomenon called 'October heat'. 4-During this season, most of the rainfall is caused by North-West monsoon and tropical cyclone.

1. The Monsoon are not steady winds. They are pulsating in nature. 2. The duration of the monsoon is between 100- 120 days from early June to mid-September. 3. During the on-set of monsoons there is an increase in rainfall. This increase in rainfall is known as the ‘burst’ of the monsoon.    4. The monsoon arrives at the southern tip of the Indian peninsula usually by the first week of June. Then the monsoon get divided into two:-    (i) the Arabian Sea branch   (ii) the Bay of Bengal branch  5. The Arabian Sea branch reaches Mumbai approximately ten days after the on-set.   6. By mid-June the Arabian Sea branch of the monsoon arrives over Saurashtra-Kuchchh and the central part of the country    7. The Bay of Bengal branch advances rapidly and arrives in Assam in the first week of June.    8. The lofty mountains causes the monsoon winds to deflect towards the west over the Ganga plains.    9. The Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal branches of the monsoon merge over the north western part of the Ganga plains.    10. Delhi generally receives the monsoon showers from the Bay of Bengal branch by the end of June.    11. By the first week of July, western Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and eastern Rajasthan experience the monsoon.    12. By mid-July, the monsoon reaches Himachal Pradesh and the rest of the country.
