From Gujarat to Arunachal Pradesh there is a time lag of two hours, but the watches show the same time because the time along the Standard Meridian of India (82° 30' E) passing through Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh is taken as the standard time for the whole country. Because the same standard time for the whole country has been adopted, the watches show the same time in Arunachal Pradesh and Gujarat and in all parts of the country.

Reserved constituency refers to the constituency which is reserved the weaker section of the society. Their is reservation for weaker section is necessary because they are not able to contest elections and if they would not be elected then our country would be deprived of the voice of a major section of society and this would make our country less democratic.

The rebellion of Bastar in 1910 was caused by a combination of various factors. The moves of the colonial government pave the way for the Bastar rebellion in the following ways:

  • The moves included displacement, increased land rent and demands for free labour and goods.
  • The most important reason was the attitude of the colonial government which wanted to subjugate the people and destroy their way of living by taking over their lands.
  • In 1905,the colonial government proposed the reservation of 2/3rd of the forest area and stop shifting cultivation, hunting and collection of forest produce.
  • Those who were allowed to stay in the reserved areas had to work for the forest department.
  • The British ultimately put the rebellion down by employing heavy force.

Shifting cultivation is a form of agriculture which involves clearing of a plot of land by cutting of trees and burning them. The ashes are then mixed with the soil and crops are grown. After the land has lost its fertility, it is abandoned.  The farmers then move to a new place.
Disadvantages:

  • Leads to deforestation
  • Loss of fertility of a particular land
  • Leads to Soil erosion
  • Burning of trees – air pollution
  • Insufficient cultivation of crops for a large population.

<div>According to the Indian Forest Act of 1865 most of the basic means of livelihood of the forest dwelling tribes were banned by the British.</div>

The daily practices of villagers, such as cutting wood, grazing cattle, collecting fruits and roots, and fishing, were banned and made illegal.
Forest dwelling tribes largely depended on hunting small animals like deer, rabbit and partridge for food.
The British also imposed a ban on the hunting of small animals.
They encouraged the sport of hunting of wild and dangerous animals like the elephant, lion and tiger, by giving rewards.
If anyone was caught hunting illegally, they were severely punished for poaching.
Even shifting cultivation, which had been practiced for several generations by the forest tribes, was banned.
