From Gujarat to Arunachal Pradesh there is a time lag of two hours, but the watches show the same time because the time along the Standard Meridian of India (82° 30' E) passing through Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh is taken as the standard time for the whole country. Because the same standard time for the whole country has been adopted, the watches show the same time in Arunachal Pradesh and Gujarat and in all parts of the country.

- Indian Judiciary is an integrated and unified system.
- The Indian Judiciary is organised in a hierarchical form.
- At the bottom there are numerous Nyaya Panchayats and at the apex there is the Supreme Court.
- According to the Constitution of India, the role of the Supreme Court of India is that of a centralised court, protector of the Constitution and the highest court of appeal.
- The Indian judiciary is famous for being independent and non-partisan.
- The judiciary is to apply law equally to all irrespective of status, wealth, religion and gender. Thus, judiciary as an organ of the government presents striking difference from the legislature and the executive.
- This is why the judiciary should be neutral in politics.

The rebellion of Bastar in 1910 was caused by a combination of various factors. The moves of the colonial government pave the way for the Bastar rebellion in the following ways:
- The moves included displacement, increased land rent and demands for free labour and goods.
- The most important reason was the attitude of the colonial government which wanted to subjugate the people and destroy their way of living by taking over their lands.
- In 1905,the colonial government proposed the reservation of 2/3rd of the forest area and stop shifting cultivation, hunting and collection of forest produce.
- Those who were allowed to stay in the reserved areas had to work for the forest department.
- The British ultimately put the rebellion down by employing heavy force.

- Forests provide shelter and suitable habitat for wildlife
- Forests are the lungs of the Earth, and help in maintaining the balance between Oxygen and Carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere
- Forests provide food, medicines, timber for constructing houses.
- During the British rule, the timber grown in these forests was used to construct ships and also used as sleepers on railway lines.
- The roots of the trees hold the soil and thus reduces soil erosion.
- Forests provide livelihood to the communities of hunter-gatherers.

Shifting cultivation is a form of agriculture which involves clearing of a plot of land by cutting of trees and burning them. The ashes are then mixed with the soil and crops are grown. After the land has lost its fertility, it is abandoned. The farmers then move to a new place.
Disadvantages:
- Leads to deforestation
- Loss of fertility of a particular land
- Leads to Soil erosion
- Burning of trees – air pollution
- Insufficient cultivation of crops for a large population.

The daily practices of villagers, such as cutting wood, grazing cattle, collecting fruits and roots, and fishing, were banned and made illegal.
Forest dwelling tribes largely depended on hunting small animals like deer, rabbit and partridge for food.
The British also imposed a ban on the hunting of small animals.
They encouraged the sport of hunting of wild and dangerous animals like the elephant, lion and tiger, by giving rewards.
If anyone was caught hunting illegally, they were severely punished for poaching.
Even shifting cultivation, which had been practiced for several generations by the forest tribes, was banned.
