The weight of an object on the moon will be about one-sixth of what is on the earth. Thus, a spring balance which shows the weight of a body to be 6 N on earth will show a weight of only 1 N when taken to the moon. The weight of an object on the moon is less than that on the earth because the mass and radius of the moon are less than that of earth.

Suppose we have an object of mass m. let its weight on the moon be Wm, the mass of the moon is Mm and its radius is Rm. now, according to the universal law of gravitation, the weight of the object on the moon will be:

Wm = G x Mm x m/Rm2

Let the weight of the same object on the earth be We. The mass of the earth is M and its radius is R.

We = G x M x m/R2

Wm = G x 7.36 x 1022 kg x m / (1.74 x 106 m)2

Wm = 2.431 x 1010 G x m                                                                                               i.

We = 1.474 x 1011 G x m                                                                                                ii.

Dividing both the equations i. & ii.

Wm/We = 1/6

Weight of the object on the moon / Weight of the object on the earth = 1/6

Weight of the object on the moon = (1/6) × its weight on the earth.

Johannes Kepler was a 16th century astronomer who established three laws which govern the motion of planets around the Sun, known as Kepler’s laws of planetary motion. These are:

  1. Kepler's First Law states that the planets move around the Sun in elliptical orbits, with the Sun at one of the two foci of the elliptical orbit.
  2. Kepler's Second Law states that in an elliptical orbit of the planet, the line joining the centre of the planet to the centre of the Sun sweeps out equal areas in equal intervals of time.
  3. Kepler’s Third Law states that the cube of the mean distance ‘r’ of a planet from the Sun is directly proportional to the square of its orbital period 'T'.

Humans have as much as 300 bones at birth. However, the bones start to fuse with age. At adulthood, the total number of bones is reduced to 206.

Gundubogula Srujana 4 years, 7 months ago

300 in new born babies but they fuse as humans grow therefore adults have 206 bones.

It can do all the basic functions in our body

Yogita Ingle 4 years, 7 months ago

The cells are called as structural and functional units of a living body. Cells are structural unit as they form the structure of the organism. Cells combine to form tissues, which further combine to form organs, organs combine to form organic systems, which further combine to form organism. So, cell is the basic structural unit for all unicellular and multicellular organisms.

Some of the basic ‘life processes’ or ‘functions’ takes place in every cell to keep the organisms alive such as digestion, respiration, excretion, etc., whether it is a single-celled organism or multicellular organism. So, the cells are also called the functional unit of life owing to these processes.

Antibiotics are antimicrobial drugs obtained from other organisms (such as moulds, fungus and some soil bacteria) to combat harmful microorganisms. However, they are not very useful against certain microbes such as viruses.

Antibiotics are produced on a large scale by the fermentation process. This is a chemical process which is induced by the microorganisms in a large tank. A large tank contains the growth medium that provides the nutrition for the microorganism’s growth. Optimization of temperature, pH levels, oxygen and nutrient parameter in the fermentation tank is very crucial to producing antibiotics. After the completion of antibiotics production, they are extracted and purified through multiple physical processes. Finally, the purified antibiotics are converted into crystal form.

Acetone, petrol and perfume has low boiling temperature so when we put some acetone ,petrol or perfume on our palm it evaporates quickly and produce cooling. Because evaporation cause cooling

Yogita Ingle 4 years, 7 months ago

Acetone, petrol, perfume etc., being volatile, evaporate very fast when exposed to larger surfaces. When we put some acetone or petrol or perfume on our palm, it evaporates. During evaporation, particles of the liquid absorb energy from the surface of the palm to compensate for the loss of energy, making the surroundings cool. Hence, our palm feels cold when we put some acetone or petrol or perfume on it.

Crop variety can be improved by utilizing following methods:

  • Finding a good yield crop
  • Hybridization: The process of interbreeding between geneticallydivergent plants.
  • Introducing a gene to genetically modify the crops by providing desired characteristics to the crops.
  • Good quality seeds must be provided to the farmers.
  • Taking care to prevent the biotic factors(diseases, insects and nematodes) andabiotic factors (drought, salinity, waterlogging, heat, cold and frost) that can affect the crop growth.
  • Shorter maturity of the crops results in more economical variety.
  • Attempts must be taken to ensure higher yield.

Lichens are called as dual organisms because they have symbiotic relationship between algae and fungus.

Explanation:

• Lichens are species that grown from the substrate of fungi in an algae environment

• The algae and the fungi are in mutual relationship the algae help them to produce food and the fungus help them to absorb the nutrients

• Symbiotic relationship is that the organisms have mutual support and they help each other and they are beneficiary to each other

• They are of various size and forms and they are divided into thallus and the filament body parts

• Lichens are of variety of colors and this is due to the presence of usnic acid

Homogeneous mixture-Those mixture in which substances mixed completely and we cannot differentiate between their constituents. Heterogeneous mixture- Those mixture in which substances remain separate and the one substance is spread throughout the another substance as small particles of droplets and bubbles,are called heterogeneous mixture.

Yogita Ingle 4 years, 7 months ago

Homogeneous mixture Heterogeneous mixture
It has a uniform composition It has a non-uniform composition
It has only one phase There are two or more phases
It can’t be separated out physically It can be separated out physically
‘homo’ means the same ‘hetero’ means different
Example: a mixture of alcohol and water Example: a mixture of sodium chloride and sand

A desert cooler cools better on hot dry day because there is very less amount of water vapour present in atmosphere, we know that as humidity decreases the rate of evaporation increases.

Yogita Ingle 4 years, 7 months ago

The cooling in a desert cooler is caused by the evaporation of water. A desert cooler cools better on a hot and dry day because the higher temperature on a hot day increases the rate of evaporation of water and the dryness of air (low humidity of air) also increases the rate of evaporation of water. And due to increased rate of evaporation of water, a desert cooler cools better on a hot and dry day.

A mixture of two miscible liquids can be separated by the process of fractional distillation. The separation of two liquids by fractional distillation depends on the difference in their boiling points. Fractional distillation is carried out by using a fractionating column.
