For two rational numbers say x and y the results of addition, subtraction and multiplication operations give a rational number. We can say that rational numbers are closed under addition, subtraction and multiplication. For example:
- (7/6)+(2/5) = 47/30
- (5/6) – (1/3) = 1/2
- (2/5). (3/7) = 6/35

◆ As you know that π is a irrational number as it's decimal expension is non- terminating & Non- repeating.
◆ But these statements are actually true because we have assumed the APPROPRIATE value of π as 22/7 to make calculation easier.
◆ If you divide 22/7 then it's decimal expension will come 3.14... which as approximately value equal to π.

Find the length of the hypotenuse of a right triangle, the other two sides of which measure 9cm and 12 cm.
(Hypo)2 = 92 + 122
(Hypo)2 = 81 + 144
(Hypo)2 = 225
Hypotenuse = 15 cm

- Draw a line of 2 cm,named it as OA
- At A draw a perpendicular line of 1 cm,let this line is AC.
- Join OC, length of OC =√5 cm
- Take OC as base line ,and draw a perpendicular of 1 cm at C,let this is CD.
- join O and D ,length of OD =√6 cm
- Take OD as base and draw a perpendicular of 1 cm at D,let this is DE.
- Join O to E,the length of OE = √7 cm
- Put the compass on O,measure till point E and draw an arc to join E to number line at E'.
- Where the point meet is the distance of √7 from OE'.

According to Heron, we can find the area of any given triangle, whether it is a scalene, isosceles or equilateral, by using the formula, provided the sides of the triangle. Suppose, a triangle ABC, whose sides are a, b and c, respectively. Thus, the area of a triangle can be given by;
A= √s(s-a)(s-b)(s-c)
Where “s” is semi-perimeter = (a+b+c) / 2
And a, b, c are the three sides of the triangle.

A rational number, in Mathematics, can be defined as any number which can be represented in the form of p/q where q is greater than 0. Also, we can say that any fraction fit under the category of rational numbers, where denominator and numerator are integers and the denominator is not equal to zero.
