The first stage of life is that of an infant who always cries and pukes on his nurse's lap. In the second stage he emerges as bright –faced, complaining school boy. He slings his bag over his shoulder and creeps like a snail most unwillingly to school.

The thirds stage of a man is lover who is busy composing ballads praising the beauty of the eyes of his beloved and sighing deeply for her attention. In the fourth stage he graduates into a bearded soldier who is ready to die for honour of his country. He is ready to sacrifice his life and jump into canon’s mouth just for temporary reputation.

From the agile soldier, he enters to a stage of justice, the fifth stage. He wears a short, formal beard and his eyes become severe. He is fond of chicken and develops a fat- round belly. He speaks to everyone in a just and wise manner.

After he has played this part, he enters into the sixth age. He becomes thin, wears spectacles and the skin hangs loosely like a pouch. His clothes hang loosely around him. His authoritative voice changes to voice that produces whistles and piping sounds The last and the seventh stage is second-childishness .In this stage man loses his teeth, his taste, and his vision and ultimately dies. Thus man makes his exit from the stage of life.

The men try to wash their clothes in the Thames, but only succeed in making them dirtier than before. They pay a washerwoman in Streatley to do their laundry, and she charges them three times the normal rate because the clothes are so dirty. They do not complain.

After describing Streatley as a fishing town, J. advises readers not to fish in the Thames because there is nothing to be caught there but minnows and dead cats. J. explains that being a good angler has nothing to do with fishing, and everything to do with one’s ability to tell believable lies about the number of fish one has caught. He provides several examples of men he has met who have lied convincingly about their catch.

George and J. go to a pub in Wallingford. There is a large trout hanging on the wall there, and three different patrons (plus the bartender) each claim they were the one to catch it, each with a different story and description of its weight. At the end of the night, George trips and grabs the trout to steady himself. The trout falls to the ground and shatters, and the men realize that it is made of plaster of Paris.

Ans. Human beings feel a natural compassion and empathy towards their fellow beings especially when the need for it is felt when someone is hurt or in pain. We also consciously follow some social norms to be good citizens.

Just as the human beings experience feelings of joy, pain, loneliness, anger, hate and other such feelings, animals do have such feelings. Animals cannot express such feelings so it becomes our innate duty to develop feelings of compassion and empathy towards animals. It would not only make us good human beings but model citizens too.

Parents should inculcate such feelings of empathy in children at an early age so it comes naturally to them as they grow.  This also helps in building a good character. One could also show such care by being an example which is more impactful. Action speaks better than speech.

The art of humane tendencies and being a compassionate citizen could also be learnt through stories, poems, anecdotes and real life occurrences. There are lots of them relating to animals. One must develop a sympathetic attitude towards others’ sufferings including those of animals and try to help others overcome those sufferings.

Each one of us taking a step towards being a better and empathetic citizen leads to a forward step towards a better world.

God created all life forms with equal care and love. As man loves freedom, so do all forms of animals. Man uses animals for his pleasure, entertainment and convenience. This is man’s cruelty to animals! Have animals ever encroached into man’s world and hunted him? Has any animal ever encaged any man? If man were treated with the same cruelty, how would he feel? Certainly, he would feel the pain, hurt, suffering, and torture if being in the cage?

Animals are equally precious and should equally share God’s earth and should not be caged at all. They should be in the wilderness with their families. Animals should live in their natural habitat and be allowed to roam freely because animals’ natural instincts will vanish if they are caged in zoos. Also, some animals are forced to live in climates that they are not accustomed to and this is cruel. For example, the elephant is accustomed to live in tropical climates but is forced to live in zoos in cold countries like Canada.

Animals feel pain and pleasure, and have emotions. Those who have kept pets in their life know animals feel pain and pleasure. Have you ever seen a pet dog’s joy when he sees his master returning home after a day’s work? Have you ever seen a pet’s sadness when its master is separated from it for a long time? There are many real life incidents in all parts of the world that are touching examples of animals’ understanding and care towards human beings. Some famous books such as ‘The Jungle Book’, ‘The War Horse’, and certain movies such as ‘The Eight Below’, ‘War Horse’, ‘Jungle Book’, etc. endorse the argument that animals are not only emotional, they are intelligent also.

We must treat them with respect. We must not subject them to pain, separation from their habitat or natural environment. We must stop exploiting and killing them for fun and food. Besides, it is not morally and ethically right to deprive someone of the right of living in their own home. Forests and their other habitats are the natural home of animals. We must let them live there. We must follow the precept of ‘Live and let live others’ conscientiously. Being the most intelligent animal, it is man’s responsibility to take care of the less endowed animals.

Animals are a part of our precious nature. But nowadays people are killing animals for their skin, horns, etc. This is absolutely wrong as per the government. So there's a lot of need to get a secretary or police for the helpless, speechless animals due to human cruelty.

Very subtly, the poet conveys a message through this poem that rainfall should not be taken as just a common place phenomenon of nature. The occurrence is a wonder of nature and a boon to the Earth and mankind. It deserves to be admired and appreciated as something divine. However, to sense its divinity one needs to have refined sensibilities. One should thus recognise its significance and understand how important it is for Earth.

The poet through the poem also reveals how nature makes rain an instrument to enhance its beauty and to decorate it. The rain, in other words, rejuvenates Earth and fills joy in every being.
