Three Men in a Boat , published in 1889, is a humorous account by Jerome K. Jerome of a boating holiday on the Thames between Kingston and Oxford.

The story begins by introducing George, Harris, Jerome and Montmorency, the dog. The men are spending an evening in J.'s room, smoking and discussing illnesses they fancy they suffer from. They conclude they are all suffering from 'overwork' and need a holiday. A stay in the country and a sea trip are both considered, then rejected (J. describes the bad experiences had by his brother-in-law and a friend on sea trips). Eventually, the three decide on a boating holiday, up the River Thames, from Kingston upon Thames to Oxford, during which they'll camp, notwithstanding Jerome's anecdotes regarding previous mishaps with tents and camping stoves.

They embark the following Saturday. George must go to work that morning ("George goes to sleep at a bank from ten to four each day, except Saturdays, when they wake him up and put him outside at two") so J. and Harris make their way to Kingston by train. They are unable to find the correct train at Waterloo Station (the station's confusing layout was a well-known theme of Victorian comedy) so they bribe a train driver to take his train to Kingston, where they collect their hired boat and start their journey. They meet George later, up-river at Weybridge.

          Pollution Pollution Everywhere

Gone are the days when lambs and kids used to frisk and frolic down the verdant valleys. Gone are the days when the brooks and streams flowed down the slopes merrily! Where are the green meadows, arbours, green-belts, forests, pastures and terraced fields? Where is the pure blue sky with cotton-like cirrus flitting merrily high above?

The cankers of urbanization and industrialization have converted the once heaven like towns and cities into hell. The sylvan beauty, which one could see in the suburbs, has been replaced by factories and mills. The skyline that once was dominated by tall trees is an ugly sight of stacks spewing toxic fumes!

The clear rills, rivers, lakes and brooks that were picnic spots have been converted into drainage channels, carrying effluents to the river, which has become a bigger channel carrying the muck to the sea! The entire world is losing its beauty and purity. The mankind, a silent witness to this ugly transformation is waiting for some angel to come down and do the cleaning, preserving, and pollution managing! No angel will come for our help. We have created this hell, we ourselves will have to restore and reclaim its lost purity and beauty!

North America – Swimming with whale sharks in Mexico

I love wildlife experiences and swimming with whale sharks in Mexico was one of my all-time favorites. I call this a luxury adventure travel experience not because of cost or even accessibility, but because just how remarkable it is. There I was in the water as hundreds of whale sharks swam by, feeding upon the flotsam and jetsam of the sea as they did so. Their size was incredible, that of a car and I felt instantly and incredibly small as these graceful giants lumbered past. Even though I knew they were harmless, I couldn’t help but feel anxious as the gaping maws barreled straight for me. It was an extraordinary moment that every adventure traveler should try at least once.

Road safety is very necessary while being on the road and must know by all because road accidents are the leading cause of death. Everyone should learn the road traffic and safety rules at a very early age to perform safer behaviors in the later life. Following are the road safety rules:

  • Everyone going on the road (especially drivers) must be to the left and let other vehicles pass on the opposite direction to pass.

  • Drivers should be in slow speed while bending or turning on the roads.

  • Take extra precaution while going on the over-crowded roads and road junctions.

  • Bikers or people using two wheel vehicles must wear helmets of superior quality otherwise they should never go on the road without helmet.

  • Speeds of the vehicles should be within the speed limit and slow especially in the areas of school, hospital, colony, etc.

  • Every vehicle on the road should maintain the right distance among them to avoid collisions and accidents.

  • Everyone using road should be well aware of the road signs and must follow rules.

  • All the road safety rules and regulations must be in mind while traveling.

THE FEARSOME NIGHT

My summer vacations had started. As usual my parents along with me had decided to visit my grandmother's house. The village in which she lived was located near a forest. As per our plan, we took the bus to the village. While we were siting in the bus waiting for our destination to come I recalled the movie titled 'THE GHOST' which I went to watch last Friday. The movie talks about a ghost that comes on Friday. Coincidently, it was Friday today and darkness had covered the forest. Suddenly, I felt some sort of thing under my seat. I started screaming. Due to my scream the driver lost his concentration and hit the bus to a tree. Luckily no one was harmed. My mother asked me whether I was OK or not. I started crying and stopped only when the conductor told me that it was his bag which was placed under the seat. I was scolded to watch such scary movies. Anyways, we reached our destination and I got a lesson of not trusting movies blindly and thus the fearsome night came to an end.

Thanks.

Hope it helps!

Ans. The emperor - The ruler of Lilliput. Like all Lilliputians, the emperor is fewer than six inches tall. His power and majesty impress Gulliver deeply, but to us he appears both laughable and sinister. Because of his tiny size, his belief that he can control Gulliver seems silly, but his willingness to execute his subjects for minor reasons of politics or honor gives him a frightening aspect. He is proud of possessing the tallest trees and biggest palace in the kingdom, but he is also quite hospitable, spending a fortune on his captive’s food. The emperor is both a satire of the autocratic ruler and a strangely serious portrait of political power.

Ans. Montmorency is fictional dog and one of the primary characters of the novel "Three Men in a Boat". He loved to be perfect nuisance for others. He was adventurous, fighting and clever fox-terrier. He had killed 12 chickens, and had to be saved from street fights. He opposed to the idea of going on a boat trip, as he neither liked scenery's nor did he smoked. He was a born troubleshooter and did not need any encouragement for causing trouble to others. He adds a lot of humor to the story.
