Official records, although very detailed and easily available, do not help us in knowing what other people in the country, people who were not directly under the British rule, felt, and what reasons were behind their actions. To know that, unofficial records are used, which of course are more difficult to find as compared to the official records.

Here are some of the reasons why women are few in parliament:
1. Stereotypes: The belief that women are "supposed" to behave in a certain way while men also are "supposed" to behave in particular way. This has prevented most women from pursuing this.
2. In the past women did not have the right to stand as candidates in any elections. This has has a prolonged effect even in the contemporary society.
3. Social discrimination: The society itself doesn't support women who want to go against customs or religion. Like women speaking in public was considered a taboo in some societies
4. Gender inequality: Some societies don't fight for gender equality like educating women rather focus on education of boys. This has also affected the number of women who can pursue politics.

- The British brought about several changes in the forest laws which severely affected the lives of many tribes. The British, for example, extended their control over all forests and declared that forests were state (government) property.
- The British wanted timber, so the forests that produced it were classified as reserved forests where people were not allowed to move freely and practise jhum cultivation. As a result, several jhum cultivators moved away to other areas and lifestyles.
- Colonial officials decided to give jhum cultivators small patches of land in the forests to cultivate, on the condition that they would have to provide labour to the Forest Department.
- Naturally, many tribal groups revolted against the alien and unfair colonial forest laws.
