An object must vibrate with a frequency of at least 20 hertz to be able to produce audible sound. The sound within a range of 20 hertz to 20,000 hertz is called audible sound. The sounds of frequencies less than 20 hertz are called infrasonics. The sounds having too high frequencies which cannot be heard by human ear are called ultrasonic sounds or ultrasound.
