• One of the major functions of cytoplasm is to enable cells to maintain their turgidity, which enables the cells to hold their shape. Other functions of cytoplasm are as follows:

 • The jelly-like fluid of the cytoplasm is composed of salt and water and is present within the membrane of the cells and embeds all of the parts of the cells and organelles.
 • The cytoplasm is home to many activities of the cell as it contains molecules, enzymes that are crucial in the break down of the waste.
 • The cytoplasm also assists in metabolic activities.
 • Cytoplasm provides shape to the cell. It fills up the cells thus enabling the organelles to remain in their position. The cells, without cytoplasm, would deflate and substances will not permeate easily from one to the other organelle.
 • A part of the cytoplasm, the cytosol has no organelles. Rather, the cytosol is enclosed by matrix boundaries that fill up the cell section which does not hold the organelles.

Glimpses of the Past Summary in English The chapter starts with the events that were taking place in the year 1757. At this time, the British were in a strong position in India. They had superior arms and ammunitions and also financial resources. On the other hand, the Indian states and the princes were short-sighted and were busy fighting with each other. They lacked unity. They also often sought British help and East India Company took full advantage of this. The British followed the policy of ‘Divide and Rule’ and also subdued the Princes. Some people favoured the British while some did not. However, Tipu Sultan of Mysore fought with the British. But unfortunately, he died in the year 1799 fighting the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War.

No doubt dates and years play an important role in history as they tell us about type of people, their habits ,culture, dresses and a lot more ..

Take the example of THE FRENCH REVOLUTION the dates tell when the king ascended the throne and how he was burdened by taxes and a lot more infact the whole chapter is based on dates.

Birsa Munda was born into a family of Mundas. Mundas was a tribal group lived in Chota Nagpur. At that time, the tribal people were not happy because of the changes that happen in their life under the British rule. Their livelihoods were getting destroyed, and their religion was on the verge of danger. He claimed himself as the messenger of good who had come to save the people from trouble and to protect them from dikus or outsiders. He considered Hindu landlords and missionaries as outsiders and wanted them to stop affecting the lives of the Mundas. People believed that Birsa had some miraculous power that could multiply the grains and cure all the diseases.

He attended missionary schools and also lived with Vaishnav Preacher. During his journey, he greatly influenced by the people with whom he spent time. He wanted to reform the tribal society. He encouraged his people to give up drinking and to stop believing in superstitions. He tried to encourage his people by letting them know about their glorious history and wanted them to settle down and work on their fields.
