Manganese is the mineral used to harden steel during manufacturing. It not only increases the hardening ability and the tensile strength but also decreases the critical cooling rate in the hardening process. This makes it the most efficient alloying element among all. The term hardened steel is often used for a medium or high carbon steel that has been given heat treatment and then quenching followed by tempering.

The nonmetal used to treat rubber in the process of vulcanization is sulphur. Natural rubber is soft, sticky and has less tensile strength. Vulcanization makes rubber more strong, tough and elastic. Natural rubber is mixed with 3 to 5 % sulphur and heated at 100 to 150 deg C, which results in cross linking of chains of cis-1,4-polyisoprene through disulphide (−S−S−) bonds.

True.... And important thing metal oxides are basic in nature

Yogita Ingle 5 years, 3 months ago

Right,

When a metal reacts with oxygen, a metal oxide forms. The general equation for this reaction is:

metal + oxygen → metal oxide. Rust is a form of iron oxide and it forms slowly when iron is exposed to air.
