A candle flame consists of three different zones. Each zone has different temperatures. Every zone has different colour and this will help us in understanding the temperatures of each zone.
- The first zone is called the Outer zone
- The second zone is called the Middle zone
- The third zone is called as Inner zone
Due to complete combustion, the outer zone is blue. This zone is the hottest in temperature when compared to the other zones. This blue coloured zone is the non-luminous part of the flame.

The poem comes from hardy's memory of these 3 days in his life. altough nothing is mentioned in the poem about any of this, it is obvious that the poet is quite excited and happy about his trip.
as a young architect, the poet went to lyonnesse to supervise the renovation work of the church.the place was 100 miles away. it was winter. the leaves were covered with snow. he was alone and shaky. his only companion was the star-light.
he was unsure what situation he would have to face there during in his stay in lyonnesse. no seer could dare make a forecast.even the wisest magician could not make guess about future.
but when he returned from that place, he was very happy. his eyes shone with joy. everybody tried silently to guess the reason of his deep and uncommon happiness.
