Raja Rammohun Roy was of the opinion that changes were necessary in society and that unjust and evil social practices need to be donw away with. He felt that the best way to ensure this was by gradually persuasing Indians to abandone old, archaic practices and adopt a new way and philosphy of life. To this purpose, he established the reform association Brahmo Sabha which later came to be known as the Brahmo Samaj.

Newton’s first law of motion states that a body at rest will remain at rest, and a body in motion will continue in motion in a straight line with a uniform speed, unless it is compelled by an external force to change its state of rest or of uniform motion.
The second law of motion states that the rate of change of momentum of an object is proportional to the applied unbalanced force in the direction of force.
The third law of motion states that when one object exerts a force on another object, the second object instantaneously exerts a force back on the first. These two forces are always equal in magnitude but opposite in direction. The two opposing forces are also known as action and reaction forces.

Mining: The process of taking out minerals buried under the rocks is called mining. There are two main methods of mining, viz. open-cast mining and shaft mining .
Open Cast Mining: When minerals are taken out by removing the surface layer, the process is called open-cast mining. Minerals which lie at shallow depths are extracted by this process.
Shaft Mining: When deep bores (called shafts) are made to reach the mineral deposits at great depth, the process is called shaft mining.

Ribosomes are the cell organelles found inside the cell and composed of RNA and Proteins. They may found suspended in the cytosol, called free ribosomes or bound to the endoplasmic reticulum, called bound ribosomes. They help in protein synthesis.
Ribosomes and protein synthesis function:
Ribosomes are typically composed of two subunits, a large subunit and a small subunit. These two subunits join together when the ribosome attaches to messenger RNA (mRNA) during protein synthesis. Ribosomes along with another RNA molecule, transfer RNA (tRNA), help to translate the protein-coding genes in mRNA into proteins.

Electrostatic force is the force exerted by a charged body on another charged or uncharged body. Eg: Take a comb and brush it on a hair 3-4 times and then take it near some small bits of paper. Donot touch the comb with the paper. The bits of paper would get attracted to the comb. This is because the comb is charged because of the rubbing on your hair and it attracts uncharged objects like paper.

It is force that results due to the action of muscles, and is a contact force, since there is a contact between the surfaces. Muscular force is needed whenever movement of the body occurs. Walking, lifting, getting up from a chair, crossing a leg, etc. all require muscular force.

The control that the politician holds over the judge does not allow for the judge to take an independent decision. This lack of independence would force the judge to make all judgments in favour of the politician. Although we often hear of rich and powerful people in India trying to influence the judicial process, the Indian Constitution protects against this kind of situation by providing for the independence of the judiciary.
It is the independence of the judiciary that allows the courts to play a central role in ensuring that there is no misuse of power by the legislature and the executive. It also plays a crucial role in protecting the Fundamental Rights of citizens because anyone can approach the courts if they believe that their rights have been violated.

Rods and cones are the two types of photoreceptors in the human retina. Rods and cones are essential for vision. Rods and cones together are able to detect movement, light and colour, and relay that information back to the brain.
Rods: Rods are highly sensitive cells located in the outer area of the retina (the lining of the back of the eye). They are used in areas of dim light and are most acute to light, shape and movement changes. Rods do not detect colour. Rods help people to see in low light.
Cones: Cones are located in the central fovea (central area of the retina). They are less sensitive than rods and require bright lighting. Cones are central to our ability to see colour. Cones help people see colours and have depth perception.
