Millions of years ago, the plants and animals which lived in the sea died. Their dead bodies sank to the bottom of the sea and were soon covered with clay and sand. Over millions of years, under high pressure and temperature and in the absence of air, the dead remains of plants and animals were slowly converted into petroleum. It then passed through porous rocks and got trapped between non-porous rocks. A more volatile component of petroleum called natural gas forms a cover over it.

Yes, economic and social marginalisations are interlinked. This can be seen in the following points:

  • Social marginalisation is based on religion, culture, tradition, dress etc. If a particular group is different from the rest, then it will lead to religious differences.
  • Religious differences prevent minorities from getting jobs, allowing their children to go to school or renting houses for themselves, which in turn leads to these marginalised communities not being able to earn enough. This then creates economic marginalisation.

Electric current as the rate of flow of electrons in a conductor. The protons are tightly packed inside the nucleus of an atom whereas electrons in the outer shells orbits around the nucleus. Since electrons are loosely held by the nucleus, they are able to travel freely within the limits of the body. The SI Unit of electric current is the Ampere.

The cotton textile industries were mainly concentrated in the cotton growing belt of Gujarat and Maharashtra, in the early years because:

1. The moist climate of the area helped in the growth of cotton. So raw cotton was readily available in the area.

2. There were ports nearby so the manufactured goods could be easily transported.

3. There was enough labour force in the area. There were farmers, cotton ball pluckers and workers who did the work of spinning, weaving, dyeing, tailoring and sewing.

4. It was easy to access the markets for finished goods from here.

5. Other supporting industries involved in manufacturing dyes and packaging materials were available.
