Democracy is a form of government that allows people to choose their own representatives. People have the freedom to express their opinion and organise protests.
The word 'democracy' has its origins in the Greek language. It combines two shorter words: 'demos' meaning whole citizen living within a particular city-state and 'kratos' meaning power or rule.

Federalism: This refers to the existence of more than one level of government in the country. In India, we have governments at the state level and at the centre. Panchayati Raj is the third tier of government. While each state in India enjoys autonomy in exercising powers on certain issues, subjects of national concern require that all of these states follow the laws of the central government. Under federalism, the states are not merely agents of the federal government but draw their authority from the Constitution as well. All persons in India are governed by laws and policies made by each of these levels of government.

At the lowest stratum of the peasantry tribals subsisted as agricultural labourers, coolies in plantations, mines and factories and through shifting cultivation. The colonial state tightened control over forest zones for revenue and banned shifting cultivation in the reserved forests. In short, the main problems of the tribals are poverty, indebtedness, illiteracy, bondage, exploitation, disease and unemployment. After independence, tribal problems and tribal unrest have become politicised. An articulate and effective political elite have emerged in several tribal areas.

Under the system of "subsidiary alliance"-
(i)Indian rulers were not allowed to have their independent armed forces.
(ii)They were to be protected by the Company, but had to pay for the "subsidiary forces" that the Company was supposed to maintain for the purpose of this protection.
(iii)If the Indian rulers failed to make the payment, the part of their territory was taken away as penalty.
The states which had to lose their territories on this ground were Awadh and Hyderabad.

Soil degradation causes include agricultural, industrial, and commercial pollution; loss of arable land due to urban expansion, overgrazing, and unsustainable agricultural practices; and long-term climatic changes. Some other factors as deforestation, extensive cultivation on marginal land, improper cultivation practices like mono-cropping, poor manuring, misuse of fertilizers or excess use of fertilizers, excessive irrigation, over-grazing, fragility of soil, adverse weather and mining may accelerate the process of soil degradation.

We need laws to defy ourselves because it helps in making, enforcing and upholding certain laws and through these the government can control the activities of all the citizens of the country and private companies so as to ensure social justice. All the individuals are equal in the eyes of law and it is under this principal our judiciary has a hold on the citizens of the country. Laws are needed to uphold our lives and it will create an awareness among people of what is to be done and what is not. It is like a way of life.

Causes of Tribal Revolts in India: The tribals' mainstay were shifting agriculture, hunting, fishing and the use of forest produce. With the influx of non-tribals into the traditional regions of the tribals, the practice of settled agriculture was introduced. This led to the loss of land for the tribal population. Using extensive archival material, this article highlights two key findings: first, that Bastar experienced high levels of British intervention during the colonial period, which constituted the primary cause of tribal violence in the state; and second, that the post-independence Indian government has not reformed.
