A large area of beautiful land that is protected by the government so that the public can enjoy it. This is called national park.

Yogita Ingle 5 years, 4 months ago

National parks are areas that aim to protect the natural environment. They are also involved in public recreation and enjoyment activities. In a national park, the landscapes and its flora and fauna are present in their natural state.

India is rich in biodiversity. It comprises about 7.6% mammals, 6.2% reptiles, 12.6% birds, and 6.0% flowering plant species under the Indomalayan ecozone. Many eco-regions of our country like Shola forests exhibit high rates of endemism. The forests cover over the ranges from the tropical rainforest, the Western Ghats, and Northeast India to the coniferous forests in the Himalayan region.

British preserved official documents, because they thought that by keeping all the records in written it would be easier for them or any other persons to know about the decisions taken in the past. they clearly noted down all the policies, instructions, plans, agreement and important things related to the administration of the country,  so that in the future, those records can serve as proofs of all the decisions that they had taken. One can study the notes and reports that were prepared in the past.

Utility is what makes an object or substance a resource.

The factors that determine the utility of any natural resources foremost are ‘human beings’ because only they have the ability to recognise any substances as resources, followed by ‘time’ and ‘technology’ which transform a substance into a resource. Finally, the ‘value’ provides the economical worth of a substance and converts it into a resource.

For example: Uranium found in Ladakh. It was primarily discovered by people, with time technology will be used to utilise it and then its economical value will finally transform it into a resource.

The Fundamental Rights

  1. Right to Equality: All persons are equal before the law. This means that all persons shall be equally protected by the laws of the country. It also states that no citizen can be discriminated against on the basis of their religion, caste or ***. Every person has access to all public places including playgrounds, hotels, shops etc. The State cannot discriminate against anyone in matters of employment. But there are exceptions to this that you will read about later in this book. The practice of untouchability has also been abolished.
  2. Right to Freedom: This includes the right to freedom of speech and expression, the right to form associations, the right to move freely and reside in any part of the country, and the right to practise any profession, occupation or business.
  3. Right against Exploitation: The Constitution prohibits trafficking, forced labour, and children working under 14 years of age.
  4. Right to Freedom of Religion: Religious freedom is provided to all citizens. Every person has the right to practise, profess and propagate the religion of their choice.
  5. Cultural and Educational Rights: The Constitution states that all minorities, religious or linguistic, can set up their own educational institutions in order to preserve and develop their own culture.
  6. Right to Constitutional Remedies: This allows citizens to move the court if they believe that any of their Fundamental Rights have been violated by the State.
  7. Secularism: A secular state is one in which the state does not officially promote any one religion as the state religion.

The first English factory was set up on the banks of the river Hugli in 1651. This was the base from which the Company’s traders, known at that time as “factors”, operated. The factory had a warehouse where goods for export were stored, and it had offices where Company officials sat. As trade expanded, the Company persuaded merchants and traders to come and settle near the factory. By 1696 it began building a fort around the settlement. Two years later it bribed Mughal officials into giving the Company zamindari rights over three villages. One of these was Kalikata, which later grew into the city of Calcutta or Kolkata as it is known today. It also persuaded the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb to issue a farman granting the Company the right to trade duty free. The Company tried continuously to press for more concessions and manipulate existing privileges. Aurangzeb’s farman, for instance, had granted only the Company the right to trade duty free. But officials of the Company, who were carrying on private trade on the side, were expected to pay duty. This they refused to pay, causing an enormous loss of revenue for Bengal.

India adopted the Parliamentary form of democracy in the year 1947 since India has been familiar with its working during the times of British Rule. The type of government that functioned in India before independence in 1947 was very much similar to the British model of parliamentary. The framers of the constitution were greatly influenced by the English system. Therefore, the members of the Constituent Assembly decided to adopt this form of government for the independent India. India is a nation deeply divided into several groups with conflicting interests. All these varied groups are ensured representation in the Parliament through this form of government.
