Difference between Rapid  and Spontaneous combustion 1 Rapid combustion is to be initiated by once. Spontaneous combustion take place by itself. 2. In rapid combustion, external heat is required to start it once. In spontaneous combustion,no external heat required to start it. 3. In rapid combustion, large amount of heat and light is evolved in a short time. In spontaneous combustion, small amount of heat and light is evolved. 4. Example of rapid combustion: Burning of domestic cooking gas in a gas burner. Example of spontaneous combustion: Burning of white phosphorous on its own when kept exposed in air for some time.
