If a star is eight light years away from the earth, then it means that the light from that star takes eight years to reach us. This also means that the star which appears to our eyes is in fact the way it looked eight years ago.

The incubation period for chicken eggs is 20 to 21 days, and increases up to 30 days for other poultry. After sitting for some days, a broody hen can be given some newly hatched chicks and, if they are accepted, the original eggs can be removed and replaced with more chicks. Thus hens with a better record of mothering can be better utilised for their abilities.

Pressure is the force acting on a unit area on an object.
Pressure = Force/Area on which it acts
example:It is easier to push a nail into a wooden door through its pointed end than through its blunt end, because small area of the pointed end helps in creating more pressure and it becomes easier to insert the nail.

Petroleum is a dark coloured, thick crude oil found deep below the ground in certain areas. It has an unpleasant smell.
Petroleum is extracted by drilling holes (called oil wells) in the earth’s crust. The world’s first oil well was drilled in Pennsylvania, USA, in 1859. Eight years later, in 1867, oil was struck at Makum in Assam. In India, oil is found in Assam, Gujarat, Mumbai High and in the river basins of Godavari and Krishna.
Petroleum is a mixture of various constituents such as petroleum gas, petrol, diesel, lubricating oil, paraffin wax, etc. The process of separating the various constituents or fractions of petroleum is known as refining. It is carried out in a petroleum refinery. The separation of petroleum into different fractions is done by the process of fractional distillation.

Static electricity refers to an imbalance between the electric charges in a body, specifically the imbalance between the negative and the positive charges on a body.
When we rub the comb into hairs and take it near small pieces of paper, all the paper pieces get attracted towards the comb. This is because of static charge that is developed due to rubbing of comb on oily hairs.
