The pressure at a point inside a liquid depends on the depth of point from the free surface, therefore, the pressure is very high at the bottom of the dam. To tolerate this pressure, the walls of dam are made thick at the bottom. As we move upwards, the pressure goes on decreasing: so the thickness of wall is made smaller and smaller. That is why the walls of dam are made thick at the bottom and thin at the top.

The lens focuses light through the vitreous humor, a clear gel-like substance that fills the back of the eye and supports the retina. The retina receives the image that the cornea focuses through the eye's internal lens and transforms this image into electrical impulses that are carried by the optic nerve to the brain.

Sound can be characterized by the loudness, pitch and quality.

Loudness:

  • Based on the amplitude of a sound wave, we can determine the loudness of the sound. When the amplitude is high, it will produce a sound that is loud and when the amplitude is low, it will produce a sound that is soft.
  • Loudness is proportional to the square of the amplitude. This means that if the amplitude is doubled, the loudness increases four times.

Pitch:

  • Pitch denotes the shrillness or flatness of a sound. Sound can be high or low.
  • A woman’s voice generally has a high pitch than a man’s voice. This is because the frequency of a woman’s voice is higher.

Quality (Timbre):

The quality of a sound is that property by virtue of which two sounds of the same pitch and loudness produced by the two different musical instrument or people can be distinguished.

Intensity of sound depends on the following factors:

(i) It is directly proportional to the square of the amplitude of vibrations.

(ii) It is inversely proportional to the square of the distance between the source and the observer.

(iii) It is directly proportional to the density of the medium.

(iv) It is directly proportional to the surface area of the vibrating body.

(v) It is directly proportional to the square of the frequency of the source.

(vi) It is directly proportional to the motion of the medium.

Mechanical advantage is a type of measure which calculates the amplified force gained by the mechanical system. It provides the ratio between the force applied to the load and the force needed to overcome the given force. Since the two quantities are a force, it is a unitless parameter.

In other words, the mechanical advantage is the force generated by a machine to the force applied to it which is applied in assessing the performance of the machine. The mechanical advantage formula is given by

MA = FB /FA

Wherein,

MA is the mechanical advantage,

FB = force of the object and

FA = effort to overcome the force of the object.

When one surface is moving over another surface, a force comes into play and opposes their relative motion. This force is called friction or force of friction. Friction always opposes motion because it acts in opposite direction to motion. Force of friction arises due to contact between two surfaces. If there is no contact between two surfaces there would be no friction.

  • We know that all living organisms like plants and animals need food, oxygen and water so that they can survive.

  • These elements need to be delivered to their body parts so that they can function properly.

  • Hence, all living organisms need a transport system in their bodies.

  • The circulatory system is a transport system of the human body which consists of a network that supplies food, water, oxygen and other substances throughout the body.

When a vibrating body vibrates the sound is produced

Yogita Ingle 5 years, 8 months ago

Sound is produced when something vibrates. The vibrating body causes the medium (water, air, etc.) around it to vibrate. Vibrations in the air are called travelling longitudinal waves, which we can hear. Sound waves consist of areas of high and low pressure called compressions and rarefactions, respectively.

The container of soda acid fire extinguisher holds a sodium bicarbonate solution.

The screw-on cap contains a plunger mechanism which is covered by a safety guard. Below the plunger is a glass phial containing sulphuric acid.

When the plunger is struck, the glass phial is broken and the acid and sodium bicarbonate mix together (observe the diagram given below).

The resulting chemical reaction produces carbon dioxide gas which pressurises the space above the liquid forcing it out through the internal pipe to the nozzle.

When two plane mirrors are kept inclined at an angle, they can form multiple images of an object because the image of the object formed in one plane mirror acts as object for the other plane mirror.

The two plane mirrors arranged at right angles to each other form three images of an object placed between them. As the angle between the two plane mirrors decreases, the number of images formed increases. If an object is placed between two parallel plane mirrors facing each other, then an infinite number of images should be formed.

At puberty, the voice box or the larynx begins to grow. Boys develop large voice boxes. The growing voice box in boys can be seen as a proturding part of the throat called adam's apple

Yogita Ingle 5 years, 8 months ago

During adolescence in males, the thyroid cartilage of the larynx protrudes forward forming a bulged structure in the throat region. This structure is called as Adam’s apple. This is one of the most remarkable secondary sexual characteristic feature in men. The larger larynx in males is the reason for deeper voice in men than in women.
