Modern methods of irrigation being able to overcome the limitations of traditional methods are encouraged these days. Some of the modern methods of irrigation are:
Sprinkler system
In this system, there are perpendicular pipes with rotating nozzles on top. These pipes are joined to the main pipeline. Water flows through main pipeline under pressure by a pump. Water escapes from the nozzles & reaches the field.
Drip system
In this system, water falls drop wise near roots. Therefore, there is no wastage of water. This method is very good for areas with less water.
Modern methods are more efficient with no water wastage and no human labor involved.

Manure is an organic substance that increases soil fertility. It is prepared from decomposition of animal excreta & plant wastes. It consists of Organic matter and nutrients essential for the plant. It improves the soil structure by increasing its water holding capacity, and also avoids water logging.
Some of the advantages of using manures are:
- Improves soil texture
- Restore soil with all nutrients
- Increases water-retaining capacity of soil
- Non-toxic
- Eco friendly
- Recycled biological product

The process of watering the crops is called irrigation. Two methods of irrigation are:
(i) Sprinkler system : This system is used on the uneven land where less water is available. The perpendicular pipes, having rotating nozzles on top, are joined to the main pipeline at regular intervals. Water is allowed to flow through main pipe under pressure, which escapes from the rotating nozzles. In this way water gets sprinkled on the crop.
(ii) Drip irrigation: This system is used to save water as it allows the water to flow drop by drop at the roots of the plants. It is the best technique for watering fruit plants, gardens and trees. Water is not wasted at all.

Yeasts are eukaryotic, single-celled microorganisms classified as members of the fungus kingdom. Yeast is a living microscopic single-cell organism that, as it grows, converts its food (through a process known as fermentation) into alcohol and carbon dioxide. Yeast, the most common one being S. cerevisiae, is used in baking as a leavening agent, where it converts the food/fermentable sugars present in dough into the gas carbon dioxide. This causes the dough to expand or rise as gas forms pockets or bubbles.

Manure is obtained from the decomposition of dead plants and animals. They essentially function as sustenance to the crops. They help in the proper cultivation of crops. Addition of manure enables the soil to hold more water. Organic manures have acids that dissolve the nutrients with soil and make it available to the plants.
A fertilizer is a chemical substance that contains necessary nutrients such as nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorous to make the soil fertile. Popular examples of fertilizers are urea, potash, and ammonium sulphate.

Functions of the stomata:
(i) They allow the exchange of gases (CO2 and O2) with the atmosphere.
(ii) Evaporation of water from the leaf surface occurs through the stomata. Thus, the stomata help in the process of transpiration.

The word ‘Galaxy’ is termed from the Greek word ‘galaxies‘. It is tough to tell how big the universe is! The universe has a large number of galaxies, and each carries millions of stars which are bounded by a unique force known as gravitational force. There are approximately 70,000 million stars in the universe. The solar system where our earth exists is in Milky Way Galaxy.

Soil is prepared before sowing the seeds. The soil is loosened to increase the absorption of water and manures. Loosening of soil particles adds humus and nutrients in the soil that increases crop yields. Tilling or loosening the soil is done by ploughs which are pulled by a pair of bulls.
