The 5 R's – reduce, reuse, recycle, recover and residual management.  Reduce, reuse, recycle, recover and residual management. – Five actions that can make your organization and you a better steward.
Reduce: Reducing waste is the most important thing we can do. By reducing waste, we avoid the unnecessary use of resources such as materials, energy and water. It means there is less waste to manage.

Reuse: The next most important thing we can do is reuse waste material. That way it doesn't go in the rubbish and end up in the landfill. It also means you don't have to buy a new product. That saves you money and saves the energy and resources that would have been used to make the new product.

Recycle: Recycling involves some form of reprocessing of waste materials to produce another product. For example, recycling plastic bottles to make buckets.

Recover: This is the recovery of waste without any pre-processing. For example, waste oils that cannot be refined for reuse in vehicles can be burnt for energy recovery. Recovering the energy from waste oil reduces our dependence on coal and imported oil.

Residual Management:This is the last option when waste cannot be used in any other way. Usually, this means sending rubbish to a landfill. Residual disposal of liquid waste is normally into a sewer or septic tank.

It is very important to manage residual solid and liquid waste properly. Waste not disposed of correctly can cause damage to health and the environment.

Crop rotation is a method of replenishing the soil with nutrients and this is done by growing different crops alternatively. For example, growing legumes as fodder in one season and wheat in the next season. It is important because it helps in replenishing of soil with nitrogen.

Meghna Thapar 5 years, 1 month ago

The practice in which different types of crops (leguminous and non-leguminous) are grown alternately in the same field or soil is called crop rotation. In crop rotation, the cereal crops like wheat, maize, paddy and millet are grown with leguminous crops like pulses, beans, peas, etc. in the same field. When a cereal crop is grown first, it takes away a lot of nitrogen from the soil and makes it deficient. Leguminous crops are grown to enrich the soil with nitrogen and thus increase the fertility of the soil.

Describe briefly about animal husbandry? (3) Ans. a. Animal husbandry is the branch of agriculture concerned with animals that are raised for meat, fibre, milk, eggs, or other products. b. It includes day-to-day care, selective breeding and the raising of livestock, like plants, animals also provide us with large variety of food items for which they are reared domestically or commercially. c. They are provided with proper food, shelter and care, this is called animal husbandry. 7. Why do you think removal of weeds is essential? Write any one method to control weeds. (2 + 1) Ans. Removal of weeds is essential because they compete with the crops for water, nutrients and other basic necessities which affects the growth and results in low yield of crops. With the help of Khurpi, weeds are cut close to the ground from time to time. Another method is using weedicides like 2,4 D which helps to control weeds. 8. What is crop rotation? Give four examples of fertilizers. (2) Ans. Urea, ammonium sulphate, super phosphate, potash, NPK etc. What do you mean by the term irrigation? (2) Ans. The supply of water to crops at appropriate intervals is called irrigation. The time and frequency of irrigation varies from crop to crop, soil to soil and season to season. If a handful of seeds are given to you, how will you separate healthy seeds from damaged ones? (2) Ans. Take a beaker half filled with water and put some seeds into it and stir well, wait for some time. You will observe that some seeds sink in water while some seeds float on water, damaged seeds become hollow and lighter and thus they float on water.

The typical thunderstorm is 15 miles in diameter and lasts an average of 30 minutes. Thunderstorms happen in every state and every thunderstorm has lightning. Thunderstorms may occur singly, in clusters, or in lines. Some of the most severe occur when a single thunderstorm affects one location for an extended time. Thunderstorms are most likely in the spring and summer months and during the afternoon and evening hours, but they can occur year-round and at all hours. Along the Gulf Coast and across the southeastern and western states, most thunderstorms occur during the afternoon. Thunderstorms can bring heavy rains (which can cause flash flooding), strong winds, hail, lightning, and tornadoes. Severe thunderstorms can cause extensive damage to homes and property.

Mellability is the physical proprerty(e.i which can be touched) of metals by which they can be beaten up into thin sheets. As you have also asked for a suitable example, the aluminium foil sheet that you usially see at you home is the best example of this.

Yash Kumar Srivastava 5 years, 1 month ago

Ex. Like iron is beaten to make iron sheets.

Yash Kumar Srivastava 5 years, 1 month ago

This is malleability not mellability. This is the physical properties of the metal in which metal is beaten to make a sheets.

The 4R means Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Restore.

(i) Reduce: We should reduce the use of non-biodegradable compounds that are harmful to us.

Example: Instead of using polythene bags we should give preference to paper bags.

(ii) Reuse: We should reuse the materials instead of dumping.

Example: Plastic bags can be reused to make decorative things.

(iii) Recycle: Non-biodegradable materials should be subjected to the recycling process.

Example: Plastic materials.

(iv) Recovery: If the waste remains after it is been reused and recycled, we can use it to generate energy at our waste-energy (EfW) plant. This is known as Recovery.
