It is given that they spend 80%, 85% and 75% of their respective salaries.

So, their savings are 100% – 80% = 20%, 100% – 85% = 15% and 100% – 75% = 25% of their respective salaries.

Let the radius of the sphere be r.
Then surface area of the sphere ={tex}4\pi r^2{/tex}
New radius of the sphere ={tex}r\over2{/tex}
∴ New surface area of the sphere ={tex}4\pi({r\over2})^2=\pi r^2{/tex}
∴ Decrease in surface area ={tex}4\pi r^2-\pi r^2{/tex}
{tex}3\pi r^2={3\over4}{(4\pi r^2)}{/tex}
={tex}3\over4{/tex}(surface area of the original sphere).
