The distributive property of multiplication is:

  • Over addition: a(b + c) = ab + ac
    • -3/4 {2/3 + (-5/6)} = -3/4 {(4+(-5))/6} = (-3/4) x (-1/6) = 3/24 = 1/8
    • -3/4 {2/3 + (-5/6)} = -3/4 x 2/3 + (-3/4) x (-5/6) = -1/2 + 5/8 = (-4+5)/8 = 1/8
  • Over subtraction: a(b - c) = ab - ac
    • -3/4 {2/3 - 5/6} = -3/4 {(4-5)/6} = (-3/4) x (-1/6) = 3/24 = 1/8
    • -3/4 {2/3 - 5/6} = -3/4 x 2/3 - (-3/4) x 5/6 = -1/2 + 5/8 = (-4+5)/8 = 1/8

The word "associative" comes from "associate" or "group"; the Associative Property is the rule that refers to grouping. For addition, the rule is "a + (b + c) = (a + b) + c"; in numbers, this means 2 + (3 + 4) = (2 + 3) + 4. For multiplication, the rule is "a(bc) = (ab)c"; in numbers, this means 2(3×4) = (2×3)4.

LCM of 2 and 3 is 6. -3\2=-3*3\2*3=-9\6 5\3=5*2\3*2=10\6 So the rational numbers are -8\6,-7\6 etc.

Jay Bhatheja 5 years, 11 months ago

LCM=6 -3*3=9 2*3=6 5*2=10 3*2=6 Since there are not rational numbers we multiply both by same number. You can take any there, I take 10 9/6*10=90/60 5/3*10=50/60 Now, you can write any rational number like 91/60,95/60,etc.
